CBS Sports revs up its engines for the first of five races from its 2007 Auto Racing schedule with the American LeMans LONE STAR GRAND PRIX on Sunday, April 29 (1:00-3:00 PM, ET; taped 4/21) from Reliant Park in Houston, Texas.
The world’s most elite auto makers including Porsche, Aston Martin, Audi, and BMW will have their engine’s pumping up to 200 mph around hairpin turns and exhilarating straight-aways. Over 130,000 will be on hand to watch fender-to-fender racing on the 345-acre track wrapping around the historic Astrodome and imposing Reliant Stadium. Drivers will be gearing up for racing’s most legendary event, the 24-hours of LeMans in France.
One of the features in CBS Sports’ broadcast of the LONE STAR GRAND PRIX is with seven-time Cy Young award-winning Major League Baseball pitcher and Houston resident Roger Clemens, who served as Grand Marshall of the race, pronounced ‘Start your engines’ and also participated in the celebrity go-kart race, in which he placed third. Defending champion Allan McNish, driver of the Audi R10 TDI, in LMP1 with teammate Dindo Capello is shown giving some racing pointers to Clemens before the future Hall of Famer drove in the race.
CBS Sports’ Greg Creamer, Calvin Fish, Danny Sullivan, Tracy Wolfson and Liz Halliday cover the action from Houston. Suzanne Smith is the coordinating producer.
Tony Petitti is the Executive Vice President and Executive Producer, CBS Sports.
