Missouri State tabs Purdue assistant Martin to replace Hinson as coach

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State has hired Purdue assistant Cuonzo Martin to fill its head coaching vacancy.

The hiring was first reported by CBSSports.com senior writer Gary Parrish.

The 36-year-old Martin replaces Barry Hinson. Hinson was fired on March 9 after failing to take Missouri State to the NCAA tournament in nine seasons.

Martin was introduced in a Wednesday news conference at Missouri State's Hammons Student Center.

Martin is a former Purdue player and was an assistant coach there for seven years. Purdue promoted him to associate coach last year.

not sure what happened to my other thread so I guess I'll post this again.  The Purdue family hates to see you go, but we are very happy with your promotion into great job in the Valley.  Now all you have to do is take them back to the tourney for the first time since Alford.

I still think Hinson got hosed on the firing though since they were snubbed by the selection committee two years in a row, one season with an RPI of 22.  But that's in the past.  Good luck to Missouri State going forward.
