Marist named former Memphis assistant Chuck Martin, a Bronx native, its head basketball coach yesterday.
Martin, who helped lead the Tigers to the national title game this season, replaces Matt Brady, who left the Poughkeepsie school last month for James Madison.
The Red Foxes won the MAAC regular-season title in 2006-07, but did not win the league tournament, having to settle for an NIT bid. This season, they went 18-14.
Prior to Memphis, Martin, a 1993 graduate of Monmouth (NJ), served as an assistant at St. John's, Drexel, UMass and Manhattan. Martin's contract runs through 2013-14.
