THE GOOD NEWS
Three double-digit scorers and four other players who appeared in at least 30 games this season are back. Newcomers include three players who redshirted in 2007-08 (6-10 freshman James Anderson, 6-0 freshman Matt Pinegar and 5-10 Lamont Morgan). Guard Jackson Emery played in 28 games as a freshman in 2005-06 and returns after serving his mission. Forward Noah Hartsock, the Oklahoma 6A Player of the Year when he averaged 27.6 points per game in 2005-06, also joins the Cougars following his two-year mission.

THE BAD NEWS
BYU loses steady senior guards Sam Burgess and Ben Murdock. Burgess scored in double figures 15 times this season and Murdock ranked second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio and fourth in assists. The Cougars weren't very deep this year, with seven players averaging double-digit minutes, and that lack of experience may catch up with them in the early going in 2008-09.

KEY RETURNEES
Mountain West co-Player of the Year Lee Cummard ranked in the league Top 10 in nine categories. First-team all-conference center Trent Plaisted recorded seven double-doubles, including a 21-point, 12-rebound day against Louisville. Jonathan Tavernari set a school single-season mark with 88 3-pointers. Freshman Jimmer Fredette had a team-high 17 points in the MWC championship game.

ROSTER REPORT

--With a put-back dunk at the 13:55 mark of the first half against Texas A&M, guard Lee Cummard became the 38th member of the BYU 1,000-point club and just the 11th to reach the milestone as a junior. He scored 14 points against the Aggies, reaching double digits for the 32nd time in 35 games.

--Jonathan Tavernari added to his school and conference sophomore record for threes in a season with three 3-pointers against Texas A&M, raising his final total to 88. He made three or more triples in 14 games this season.
