FINAL RECORD
17-16, 6-12, ninth in Pac-10.

WHAT WENT RIGHT
The Bears scored more points this season (2,521) than in any season in their history. Their 76.4 per-game average was their best in 13 years. Cal set a school record by converting 77.6 percent of its free throws and sophomore forward Ryan Anderson became the school's seventh Pac-10 scoring champ (21.1 ppg) since 1994.

WHAT WENT WRONG
One reason Ben Braun was fired was poor team defense. The Bears allowed more points this season (2,478) than in any season in their history. Their 75.1 per-game average was their worst in 13 years. Cal was just 2-12 against teams that went to the NCAA Tournament and lost seven of its final nine games. On top of everything else, the Bears drew just 1,906 fans at Haas Pavilion for their NIT opener against New Mexico -- one of their worst home crowds in a quarter-century.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I think there was an aspect of mental toughness this team lacked, and that was evident in our defensive struggles. Maybe it is a new coach who brings that to a team." -- Cal sophomore Theo Robertson.
