Titans report: Getting inside
Detroit's dismal 2007-08 season began with a search for a leader on the court and ended with a search for a leader on the bench. Three-time all-conference guard Brandon Cotton, the No. 13 scorer in school history with 1,464 career points, left the program in early November following a suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. Veteran head coach Perry Watson took a medical leave of absence on Jan. 7 and retired on March 5 after 15 seasons, 261 victories and two NCAA Tournament appearances with the Titans. Watson, 57, was 4-10 this season before handing the reins to assistant coach Kevin Mondro. In between those two developments, Detroit equaled the school single-season record for losses (23) and endured the second-longest losing streak in school history (13 games). The Titans placed last in the Horizon League (3-15) and went 1-13 on the road, including an 0-9 mark in conference play. Detroit ranked either ninth or 10th in the league in scoring, scoring margin, free-throw shooting, field-goal percentage defense, 3-point defense, rebound margin, blocked shots and assists.
