Eagles report: Getting inside
The Eagles were hoping to get a bid to either the NIT or the new CBI tournament, but neither called on Selection Sunday, leaving GSU to think of what might have been. Georgia Southern notched 20 wins on the season, but didn't gain a single victory in their last four games, including a loss in its first Southern Conference tournament game against College of Charleston. For the Eagles, it was another disappointment since they've reached the 20-victory plateau in three of the past five seasons. But once again, the team didn't make the postseason, which was the main goal at the beginning of the year. Five seniors will be lost from the 2007-08 team, including four of the top five scorers. Coach Jeff Price certainly knew this team had a sense of urgency, but it just didn't work out at the end of the year. Although the season seems disappointing right now, the team did finish with the second-best record in the Southern Conference this year b behind only 20-0 Davidson b and notched 20 wins overall yet again. For most teams, that would be a lot of success, but the Eagles are trying to raise the bar for the program, so this year's results aren't quite enough. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange.
