It was a season of adjustment for Iowa, as Todd Lickliter came from Butler to take over as coach and inherited a team that had lost 61 percent of its scoring.

Thus, it was not a surprise that the Hawkeyes struggled offensively while going 13-19. While Iowa was solid defensively and among the national leaders in points allowed per game at 58.0, only two players had scoring averages in double-figures: guards Tony Freeman and Justin Johnson.

Freeman, a junior, averaged 13.8 points and 3.2 assists a game, though he missed 10 of the season's first 12 games with a broken foot. Johnson, a senior, averaged 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

One bright spot for a team that lost seven of its last nine games is that Johnson was one of only two senior starters, along with center Seth Gorney. Junior forward Cyrus Tate (8.1 points, 5.2 rebounds a game), who developed into an inside force, will be back, as will freshman guard Jake Kelly (7.3 points, 2.0 assists a game).

Promising freshman forward Jarryd Cole is also expected to be 100 percent after averaging 6.6 points and 4.8 rebounds before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the final non-conference game.

"Coach Lowery, Nick, Lance and I were on the phone together after they learned I was looking for a new school," Freeman said. "They made me feel like I was in eighth grade all over again - they made me feel special. They made me feel wanted."

Good riddance Freeman.  I've never seen a player cry about his feelings more than Freeman.  Is this college

Looks like we've got another guard on the roster.  Devin Bawinkel transferred from West Virginia where he played sparingly as a freshman.

I like our possible starting five for next year:

PG-Peterson
SG-Freeman
SG-Gatens
PF-Tate
PF-Cole

But our bench is all guards right now except the Brommer kid from MN, and t

Iowa just signed Fuller and Bawinkel to go along with our 4 other fall signees...from what I say Fuller is going to be a beast.  Bawinkel is transferring from juco I believe, but by way of UWV so he played under Belein I guess.

I am pretty high on Gatens and Fuller.  I think with Fuller and Cole coming back, I am not worried about the loss of Gorney and Looby.   We l ...(more)

Seriously. You don't carry your weight academically or athletically. The Big Ten should ship you guys over to the Big East or some other lower caliber conference that's willing to accept one or the other. I'm tired of having to answer for your low standards.......

I'm as tired as anyone of the Big Ten bashing that has been going on for the past few years ... how is it that our conference is referenced as "over-rated" constantly when it is criticized as much as it is for being too weak?
