THE GOOD NEWS
To clean up the mess left behind after Indiana found scandal with Kelvin Sampson calling the shots, Tom Crean is considered a great hire. His system is an attractive one to most players.

THE BAD NEWS
Crean won't have Gordon, and Armon Bassett was dismissed from the team by Dan Dakich. IU also knows D.J. White is gone, and those three were the top scorers for the Hoosiers. The Hoosiers are already behind in the recruiting race with the indelible mark left by the Sampson fiasco.

KEY RETURNEES
There isn't much in the cupboard for Crean. But F Devin Ebanks of Oakdale, Conn., is considered one of the top high school seniors in the nation and should contribute immediately next season.

ROSTER REPORT

--Malik Story, who committed to Southern California as a junior, changed direction and said June 22 that he plans to attend Indiana for the upcoming season. A 6-5 swingman, Story is the 10th player to commit to Tom Crean since he arrived at IU.

--F D.J. White had an outstanding senior season as he averaged 17.3 points and a Big Ten-leading 10.3 rebounds and was a unanimous pick as the conference's Player of the Year. He finished his career with 22 points in a first-round loss to Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament, the 12th time during the season he had scored 20 or more in a game. White finished his career with 1,447 points, ranking 16th in school history, and 748 rebounds, putting him ninth on the Indiana all-time list.

--G Eric Gordon is leaving for the NBA. But Gordon, for the most part, lived up to the great hype heaped upon him by being named the Big Ten's Freshman of the Year. Gordon led the conference in scoring with a 20.7 average and his 669 points was the 10th-highest season total in school history.
