THE GOOD NEWS
Other than the point guard position, Indiana State has a decent core of players returning at other positions. Leading returning scorer Marico Stinson returns at shooting guard, Jay Tunnell will return to play either center or power forward, and Harry Marshall is back to play either point guard or the second shooting guard spot.

Indiana State is high on its recruiting class of Carl Richard, Tyler Cutter and Koang Doluony. Richard, perhaps a swingman at the collegiate level, has garnered attention, getting honors as one of Chicago's best players. Redshirt guard Jordan Printy should also help Indiana State shore up its 3-point shooting.

Indiana State coach Kevin McKenna will have more time to implement more defensive wrinkles, including the pressing defense he was not able to use very often during his debut season.

THE BAD NEWS
Indiana State loses senior point guard Gabe Moore, who was the unquestioned leader on and off the floor. Finding a capable point guard, be it among returnees Harry Marshall or Cole Holmstrom, or incoming freshman Tyler Cutter, or a junior college transfer is vital.

Indiana State also needs to improve its athleticism in the paint. Coach Kevin McKenna is committed to working with post players Jay Tunnell, Isiah Martin, Brant Leitnaker (who is suffering from a sports hernia injury) and Adam Arnold in the off-season to ensure that.

McKenna has pledged to make Indiana State tougher and more athletic which means there could be new faces on the Sycamore sideline next year.

KEY RETURNEES
Guard Marico Stinson is the leading returning scorer at 12 points. Stinson can be a deadly shooter, but must work on consistency and concentration on both ends of the floor.

Center Jay Tunnell (7.9 points, 4.7 rebounds) is the best returning inside player, though he may be spread out more to take advantage of his outside shooting. Forward Adam Arnold's numbers (3.3 points, 4.4 rebounds) slipped from 2007. Center Isiah Martin (5.4 points, 1.9 blocks) showed promise.

Guard Harry Marshall (10.1 points) cornered the Sycamore market on grit. He could see more time at point guard, he played off-guard for most of 2008.

Other returnees include guard Cole Holmstrom, swingman Aaron Carter, and guard Lamar Lee, along with redshirt guard Jordan Printy and redshirt forward Keenan Barlow.

ROSTER REPORT

--Center Isiah Martin's 59 blocks were just 18 shy of the all-time school mark set in 1976 by DeCarsta Webster.

--Center Brant Leitnaker is suffering from a sports hernia injury. Off-season surgery is expected.

I say, yes!

A large majority of ISU's problems stem from interior defense and rebounding.  Martin gives us both a proven shot blocker (he's been around 2 per game all year) and an aggressive rebounder.  It also seems like Tunnell plays better when he's in the frontcourt with Martin.

Let's face it...Tunnell's a YMCA player.  He's a bi ...(more)

For those of you that were wondering, depending on how the MVC season finishes out on Saturday, ISU can finish 5th, 6th, or 8th.  Per the Terre Haute Tribune-Star, the scenarios are as follows:

If ISU beats Missouri State

• If Bradley beats Creighton and UNI loses to Evansville: ISU is fifth. ISU wins a tiebreaker over Creighton due to a better score ...(more)
