WHAT WENT RIGHT
Loyola was unbeaten when scoring at least 70 points, although it reached that benchmark just seven times. The Ramblers ranked second in the league in free-throw shooting, offensive rebounds and turnover margin. Only conference champion Butler (10.1) averaged fewer turnovers per game than Loyola (11.3).

WHAT WENT WRONG
Seven of their 12 conference defeats were by eight or fewer points, but the Ramblers lacked the long-range firepower to make up ground. They shot a league-worst 27 percent from 3-point distance. Their inside game suffered without Leon Young, who missed 11 of the last 20 games with various ailments.
