Black Bears report: Notes, quotes
--Head coach Ted Woodward said the team elected Junior Bernal, Kaimondre Owes and Mark Socoby to serve as tri-captains for the 2008-09 season. "Our team has decided upon these young men to lead our program as captains next season," said Woodward. "Since the postseason preparation has already begun, and our student-athletes are working hard in the weight room and on the court, we elected captains following spring break, and we are looking forward to their leadership on our team." Socoby, a guard, started in all 30 games Maine played this season. He led the Black Bears in points per game and rebounds per game with 14.6 and 5.7, respectively. Socoby was an All-America East Third Team selection last season. "I am extremely honored to be named a captain and leader of the team. I believe we are on the verge of accomplishing great things at Maine. I am excited and committed to help lead this team," commented Socoby.
