THE GOOD NEWS
No player is more excited about the trip to Southern California than senior point guard Mike Davis, a lifelong resident of Compton, Calif.

"I can't quit smiling. I am still speechless about getting to play at home in front of a lot of family and friends. My mother has only seen play once in college, because we played a USC last year," said Davis, who played two years at Panola Junior College in Carthage, Texas, before coming to Valley. "I grew up kind of a UCLA fan. Now I get a chance to show them what they missed out on."

THE BAD NEWS
Larry Cox led the Delta Devils in scoring (13.3) and rebounding (9.5). Guards Carl Lucas (12.5) and Stanford Speech (10.8) averaged from than 20 points a game. The Delta Devils have some major rebuilding to do inside and out.

KEY RETURNEES
Junior forward Eric Petty averaged 6.2 points a game and made 40.2 percent of his field goals. He scored 19 in a first round SWAC Tournament game against Grambling. Junior guard Dwayne Harmason, a transfer from Cincinnati, averaged 4.9 points a game and scored 13 points in two of Valley's last six games. Junior guard Michael Clark averaged 8.0 points a game.

ROSTER REPORT

--Freshman F Chris Gamble of Meridian played in only one game this season.

--Freshman G Andrew Jackson of Dallas did not play this season.
