North Dakota State grabbed some needed momentum heading to next season when it defeated Summit League regular-season champion Oral Roberts 68-55 on March 1 in Fargo. It was the Bison's first victory over a top-tier team in the Summit League and it assured them a fourth-place finish in their first year in the conference with a 10-8 record.

Not bad, considering the Bison had their share of ups and downs in their final season of transitioning to NCAA Division I status.

The Oral Roberts victory was special because the Bison openly pointed to it as their "championship game" since they were not eligible for the Summit League tournament.

"Whatever the outcome of this game, we were going to feel that throughout the whole offseason all summer," said Bison junior forward Brett Winkelman. "We wanted to leave the fans, the coaching staff, the players and our families with a good feeling and know that we're capable come the postseason next year."

Oral Roberts was badly banged up and by the end of the game was missing three regulars, but that didn't dampen NDSU's enthusiasm.

"It's important for our guys for one big reason -- it validates what they've done this year," NDSU coach Saul Phillips said. "It wraps it all up in a nice little bow at the end of the season."

I know it is going to be a long while, but NDSU & SDSU get to go to a strong conference next year.

I'm excited about this cuz it means NDSU is moving up.

Thoughts?

(POLL) The first round would be the toughest round for them, but if they can pull the upset then (what i think) may make a push to the sweet 16

That sure was a nice home victory last night for the Bison.  Their defence dominated right away and their offence scored enough in the second half to win the game.  If the Bison play like this the rest of the year, they might end up winning the Summit League Tournament.

Well I was hoping that the Bison would have a better year than this. It stinks going .500 on the whole season. Next year I think we can push for conference champs. Maybe get the trophy, but I do expect a better year next year.

Thoughts or predictions?

Tonights loss to IUPUI was horrible. NDSU had a 12 pt lead with 5:37 left in the half and couldnt score ONE SINGLE POINT the rest of the game, and lost by 2. Horrible, especially on their home court.

This team is much better than that and these are the types of games that NDSU needs to learn how to win if they are going to continue to compete at the D-1 level. No excuses for this one. ...(more)

I just set up a new college baseball forum a couple of days ago and I'm trying to get the word spread out. Should be fun once the season gets going.

Another close loss to  Oakland last night. Man....we just cant get past those guys. 2 great games both decided in the last seconds. Just proves that the college game is great even in the lower conferences.
