Ivy League)
FINAL RECORD 13-18, 8-6, third place in the Ivy League.
WHAT WENT RIGHT Despite injuries, youth, inexperience and a rough first two months of the season, the Quakers still came back to win five of their last eight games and showed plenty of potential to be a better team in 2008-09.
WHAT WENT WRONG It was tough enough starting over with a young team, but then the Quakers lost two would-be starters early in the season and suffered some tough losses in November and December -- including an ugly 60-30 loss at mighty Florida Gulf Coast. If those signs weren't enough, early Ivy losses at Cornell and Columbia provided the final sign that the Quakers would not win a fourth straight Ivy League title and would have to focus on the long-term future with young players.
QUOTE TO NOTE "Any time you can put on that jersey and play, it's fun. That's the way I always approached it. You want to win them all. We won eight. I have no regrets. We did get a couple of quality wins on the road. That's not easy to do in this league. You go to Dartmouth, it's an eight-hour drive and there's 100 people in the stands, including your family and a couple of band members. I hope the young guys are starting to understand that. They have talent. That goes a long way. They can do it. It's just a couple of little things, that are big things, they have to work on to get this ship back on track. For me, it's been the best thing in the world." -- Penn's Brian Grandieri, who completed his college career as the only senior starter on a young team.
