FINAL RECORD 15-16, 6-12 in Big East, tied for 12th place in conference.
WHAT WENT RIGHT Randall Hanke came back from sitting out the 2006-7 campaign to have a strong junior season in the middle. Geoff McDermott, pressed into a point forward role late in the season, handled the ball reasonably well. Without Sharaud Curry to lean on, the team developed a balanced offensive attack that saw five players average double figures.
WHAT WENT WRONG When Providence was good, it showed it could beat any team in the country, but that didn't happen very often. There were too many times it either gave games away in the final four minutes or didn't really compete in the second half. Weyinmi Efejuku had a wildly inconsistent junior season, losing his starting job for much of the campaign and alternating brilliant efforts with disappearing acts. And injuries bothered the team all season and kept even the Friars healthy enough to play from reaching their potential.
QUOTE TO NOTE "When you look around the country and you look at some of the unbelievably successful coaches, that doesn't mean they were the first choice when they were hired." -- Providence coach Keno Davis on being named coach after the school offered the job to George Mason's Jim Larranaga and later to Travis Ford of Massachusetts.
