THE GOOD NEWS
G Bryan Mullins is back. He controls games with his defense and is an improving offensive player. Role players such as G Josh Bone and G Wesley Clemmons will give SIU a strong group of returners. Lowery believes his recruiting class is the best in school history. F Anthony Booker, a top-50 recruit, is the prize.

THE BAD NEWS
A solution for SIU's offensive problems is not obvious. Bone is streaky. Mullins cannot do it all himself. Counting on freshmen is risky. SIU's inside game takes a major hit to graduation and no returner is ready to replace Randal Falker and Matt Shaw.

KEY RETURNEES
Mullins is the MVC's best defender. F Tony Boyle is an experienced reserve. He will team with G Wesley Clemmons and Mullins in the senior class. G Brandon Wood is a good shooter who played sparingly as a freshman. He will get a chance to grab more minutes.

ROSTER REPORT

--G Tyrone Green handed out a career-high eight assists in the NIT win over Oklahoma State. He had no turnovers.

--G Bryan Mullins became the fifth Saluki in seven seasons to win the MVC Defensive Player of the Year award.

Ever since Bruce Weber came into Carbondale and turned the Salukis basketball program around and later went to Illinois, it seems like nobody wants to stick around. Matt Painter went to his alma mater Purdue after one head coaching season. That's understandable and it was a great offer. It seems like coaches use schools like Southern Illinois to make a name for themselves, including assistants, an ...(more)

The Salukis had a bad season overall this year, but the future looks bright. We have the #25 recruiting class in the country this year. I really believe that we could have been a championship contender if Jamaal Tatum would have stayed one more year. By the way, what ever happened to Tatum?

I was happy to see us play well without our floor leader Brian Mullins.  Glad to see the Seniors had at least one more home game in front of the greatest fans in College Basketball.  A few breaks went the other way this year and we would be giving someone hell in the NCAA instead of the NIT.

A great showing and got some contributions from unlikely sources.  Hop

64 seniors comprise the 8 teams of 8 players for the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. Randy was not one of them. He went from being one of 30 college basketball invitees for the Pan Am game last summer, to not even making the top 64 this year. Who is to blame for this? Did players like Shaw and Bone keep Falker from improving more, and therefore remaining one of the top 30 college players? ...(more)

Tony Boyle is the man vs OSU and hasn't seen on tic tonight. Can't understand it. If Shaw and Falker aren't performing and making their shots, the offense has to be generated somewhere. Another questionable coaching decision by lowery.

did any of you all think that ku-davidson game was very similar to ours against ku in the sweet 16 last year? it seems like the formula to beat ku is slowing it down, great defense, and knocking down treys. anyways i was rooting hard for davidson, and was disappointed they did not pull it out. just like siu last year, davidson didnt have enough fire power to hang with kansas.

It's been a privilege to watch him over the years. I've seen him in person twice and on tv countless times. He always seemed to have a level-head, never talked too much garbage, and played the game it was supposed to be played. Give me 5 Falker-type players any day. I wish him good luck in the NBA. I see him as a Malik Rose-type; a little undersized but a guy that can D up on someone bigger or sma ...(more)

(POLL) Well Unforunatley and very disappointingly we will not be going to the Big Dance. Do you think we get invited to NIT?
