San Jose State made progress in 2007-08, and the glass is more than half full for next season.

The Spartans finished 13-19 overall in coach George Nessman's third season, which was more victories than he had in his first two years combined (11 wins). It was also the team's most victories in a season since it went 14-14 in 2000-01.

Along the way this season, San Jose State picked up quality wins vs. WAC powers Utah State and Nevada.

So, that was all good.

What was disappointing was a late-season five-game losing streak that cost SJSU a shot at a .500 record. And a 4-12 conference record was the same as the season before.

But watch out for San Jose State in the next couple of seasons. The Spartans' best players this season were freshman guard Justin Graham and sophomore post C.J. Webster. Next season, San Jose State will add University of Washington transfer guard Adrian Oliver at the semester break.

"We've reached a fairly competitive level in the WAC and haven't started cresting," Graham told the San Jose Mercury News.
