THE GOOD NEWS
Junior John Bryant, the team's leading scorer and rebounder, still has room to improve. The team will have a year of experience under Kerry Keating, who should be better equipped as well after going through his first season as a head coach. The team always played hard and seemed to respond to Keating's coaching, which are good signs, and freshman Ben Dowdell and incoming transfer Desensae White will provide the kind of non-stop intensity that builds team toughness. All but two players return next season, which means nearly everyone will be more familiar with Keating and his system. The Broncos are close to becoming a contender in the WCC.

THE BAD NEWS
Making progress in the WCC is becoming more and more difficult with St. Mary's joining Gonzaga as teams that can compete on the national level. They are not getting any worse in the near future. The Broncos must face life without Brody Angley, who played 40 minutes or more six times and was named all-conference. He was the unifying force on the court, and pulled the team out of some difficult situations. Replacing him will be difficult. With Angley gone, Santa Clara may have trouble finding a scoring complement for Bryant. Besides Bryant no returning player averaged more than 8.1 points.

KEY RETUNEES
John Bryant, the No. 2 scorer in the conference, will be back as will frontcourt mate Ben Dwdell, who showed considerable potential as a freshman. Calvin Johnson and Jonathan Gunderson can provide a 3-point presence next season, and Desensae White will give the team a hustling dynamo. Scott Thompson, a 7-footer who will be a redshirt freshman, has a chance to be something special, although it remains to be seen whether he can achieve it.

ROSTER REPORT

--John Bryant and Brody Angley were named to the WCC's 10-man all-conference team, the second straight year the Broncos have had at least two players on the team.

--Andrew Zimmermann and Zac Tiedeman, who missed the final three weeks of the season with injuries, and Scott Thompson, who redshirted the season after having an appendectomy in the fall, should all be completely recovered for next season.

--Mitch Henke was named to the WCC all-academic team for third straight year. He carrie a 3.76 grade-point average while majoring in finance.
