FINAL RECORD 11-19 overall, 9-9 in the Summit League, tied for fifth place
WHAT WENT RIGHT Geoff Payne made the decision to follow Roger Reid from Division II Snow College. The junior guard took the Summit League by storm, finishing second in the conference for points per game. Other transfers such as forward Tyler Quinney and guard Dax Crum came in and made immediate contributions in Reid's first season, as Southern Utah enjoyed only its second season of a .500 or better conference record in the last six years.
WHAT WENT WRONG Southern Utah was brought down by the sudden departure of Nick Livi. The transfer guard from North Idaho started four of the first five games, then it was announced that he had left the team for undisclosed reasons. Already thin, the Thunderbirds had to scramble to fill a starting spot during the season. Southern Utah also suffered another personnel blow when center Tate Sorensen had to go an emergency appendectomy and missed eight games. This was a team that struggled with its outside shooting, finishing last in the league by making on 70 three-pointers.
QUOTE TO NOTE "I can honestly say that in all my years of coaching I've never enjoyed a team more than I have this team because I know where we're at. These guys made a great start for us." -- Southern Utah coach Roger Reid after completing his first season with the Thunderbirds.
