Coach Doug Davalos thought this might be the season for a breakthrough.

Last season, the Bobcats were adapting to his full-court system, jacking up shots but playing hole-riddled defense. The team did improve its defensive effort and Texas State did stop turning over the ball at such a high frequency.

But the Bobcats still didn't make the postseason.

The pieces are in place for Davalos' third season to be better. Guard Brandon Bush is back and standout newcomers Brent Benson, Ty Gough and Ryan White showed much promise that could pay off in 2008-09.

But to make it truly successful -- and to make the postseason -- the team has to fully buy into Davalos' philosophy, which is full-court, pressure defense.

I just set up a new college baseball forum a couple of days ago and I'm trying to get the word spread out. Should be fun once the season gets going.
