After working so hard to earn the No. 2 seed in the Southern Conference tournament, the Mocs certainly weren't thinking it was going to be a bad thing.

But it turned out, it was, as the Mocs fell to seventh-seeded Elon in a quarterfinal upset.

It was the final chapter in an up-and-down season in which Chattanooga finished with an 18-13 record that probably wasn't up to what the team had been expecting.

With two senior leaders in Marcus Watts and Kevin Bridgewaters, coach John Shulman probably expected more from his team. But inconsistent play had the Mocs fighting just to tie Appalachian State on the last day of the regular season to earn a tie atop the North Division.

The Mocs had been 9-2 in league play at the end of January, but they needed the win in the regular-season finale just to finish 13-7.

Then, as fast as the elation about being the No. 2 seed came, it went away, with the Phoenix putting an end to the Mocs' topsy-turvy season.
