Southland)
FINAL RECORD 9-20, 6-10 Southland Conference, sixth place West Division, 10th overall.
WHAT WENT RIGHT F Justin Reynolds emerged as the class of the A&M-Corpus Christi freshman class. Demond Watt, his backup, adds strength at power forward, another freshman standout. Combo guard Kevin Perkins was streaky, but showed much potential.
WHAT WENT WRONG Blame the new coaching staff, the new point guards or the big man himself but, by season's end, senior C Chris Daniels, the defending Southland Player of the Year, seemed in a funk. Depending on the source, the team couldn't get the ball inside to Daniels, the coaches didn't scheme to get it to him or Daniels didn't work hard enough. The Islanders also found no answers at shooting guard. They tried five players there and none emerged as a credible threat.
QUOTE TO NOTE "I'm disappointed. Even though I'm a freshman, I wanted it like a senior. I wanted to go to the conference tournament, the NCAA Tournament. It could have given me a feel for what it's like. We're going to be more motivated for next season. This season won't take my confidence away." -- F Justin Reynolds to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times after his team was eliminated from Southland Tournament contention with a loss to Stephen F. Austin March 5.
