Aggies report: Getting inside
Many things went right for Utah State this season, including a tie for the WAC title, earning the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament and advancing to the postseason for the ninth consecutive season. On an individual level, senior guard Jaycee Carroll was the WAC Player of the Year, and Stew Morrill became the winningest coach in school history, finishing the season with a record of 237-86. But the Aggies were ousted by Boise State in the semifinals of the conference tournament, and their overall resume wasn't good enough to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. They settled for the NIT, and lost in the opening round 61-57 at Illinois State. Down by two points with about 20 seconds left, Carroll, who led the nation in three-point shooting late in the season, launched a three-pointer that was off the mark. "I thought it was good when I let it go," he said. That was a disappointing way for Carroll's career to end, even though the Aggies were 24-11 this season. That marked the ninth consecutive season in which Utah State has won at least 23 games. The only other teams to do that are Kansas and Gonzaga. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange.
