The season ended but the mystery has not.

VCU did not accomplish what it set out to accomplish, losing in the semifinal of CAA Tournament after winning the regular season title and then losing in the first round of the NIT after failing to gain an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Coach Anthony Grant, who won 52 games in two years and engineered an NCAA upset of Duke two years ago, is one of the hot coaching prospects in college basketball. He is being courted by LSU while VCU officials have been preparing an offer that could earn him as much as $900,000, making him one of the top paid mid-major coaches.

At the same time CAA Player of the Year Eric Maynor, the man whose shot beat Duke, is mulling over his future. He is a potential NBA draft selection. As a junior, he has until April 27 to declare himself eligible for the NBA draft and look into his position.

If he doesn't like where he's told he will be selected and doesn't hire an agent, he can withdraw from the draft by June 16 and return to VCU.

VCU loses three seniors and has seven returning players with only one year of experience, so Maynor's leadership is crucial.
