Coach Duggar Baucom has tried to clue Keydet fans into just how special of a basketball player Reggie Williams was. He finished his career as Virginia's all-time Division I scoring leader, surpassing Virginia's Bryant Stith in the final week of the regular season.

He was VMI's and the Big South Conference's all-time leading scorer and he was still in the running to lead the nation in scoring for two straight seasons.

"I tell people all the time at VMI that they better have had enjoyed him," Baucom said. "What he gave the VMI nation, the Big South and mid-level college basketball has been pretty special."

Williams' career came to an end March 4 at Liberty as the Keydets lost 103-88 in the quarterfinals of the Big South tournament. Williams finished with 2,556 career points and capped his career with 30 points in the quarterfinal defeat.

But even with Williams scoring at a fevered pace all year, the Keydets never found any consistency. VMI struggled to defend its home court in conference games and went winless in four games that Williams missed in the middle of the season with a deep thigh bruise.

And though the Holmes twins -- Chavis and Travis -- return next season to help VMI continue its return to basketball respectability, there's no doubt that Williams' scoring prowess will be missed.
