Having to replace three starters, coach Larry Hunter knew it wasn't going to be easy for the Catamounts to improve on last year's 11-20 record.

But he likely didn't anticipate the team would win one less game this year, especially when seven letterwinners returned to the squad for 2007-08.

The Catamounts really struggled in league play, finishing 6-14 and placing last in the North Division. WCU won only one of its six victories against a team that finished above .500 in the league.

The three seniors on the club -- Arnold Gore, Negus McKenna and Eric Wilson -- didn't step into leading roles as expected, leaving the Catamounts to rely on younger players to lead the way.

It all spelled trouble for the team, which now tries to pick up the pieces for 2008-09.
