Perrilloux returns from suspension, might play in spring game

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux returned from suspension and could be allowed to practice with the team by Monday.

Perrilloux, who finished last season as heir apparent for the starting job, must make up six workouts he missed while on team suspension before he can practice, coach Les Miles said Thursday. If Perrilloux finishes those workouts by this weekend, he could get back on the field next week and might play in the Tigers' spring game on April 5.

"Ryan has a chance to play in the game if he does the things he should be doing," Miles said. "He will be allowed to compete fully for the position."

Miles suspended Perrilloux in February, shortly before spring practice began, for unspecified team violations. Perrilloux's former high school coach, who remains close to the quarterback and his family, has said Perrilloux missed a mandatory team meeting, then missed classes to attend his father's funeral without notifying coaches.

It was the third suspension for Perrilloux, who was considered the favorite to succeed Matt Flynn after leading LSU to two victories -- including the Southeastern Conference championship game -- when Flynn, a senior, was injured during the 2007 season.

Andrew Hatch, a transfer from Harvard, and Jarrett Lee, a freshman who was redshirted last season, have been handling quarterback duties during spring practice.

"We are not ready to rely upon anybody at the quarterback spot," Miles said. "We have three guys there. There will be a competition. Perrilloux has to compete."

Miles said Perrilloux began weight room workouts and running on Wednesday.

Perrilloux was among the nation's most coveted high school quarterback prospects when he joined the Tigers. He appeared to be fulfilling his promise in 2007, after redshirting in 2005 and playing sparingly as a third-stringer in 2006.

In May 2007 he was suspended from the team after he was cited for trying to illegally board a Baton Rouge riverboat casino by using his older brother's driver's license. He was reinstated in August.

In October, the week before the Alabama game, he was barred from practice for his role in a nightclub brawl.

The "Terrelle Pryor" of yesteryear is back. Naysayers unite, cause that is waht it will take to keep the Fighting Tigers down. He has a few years experience under his belt and need I remind you what happened the last time we inserted a QB that never played on a regular basis before.

Think! Think hard...it wasnt that long ago.

Does the image of Purple and Gold confett ...(more)
