Buckeyes report: Inside slant
Facing the worst-ranked defense in the Big Ten, Ohio State couldn't score an offensive touchdown for the second time in seven games this year. But entering Saturday's game at Michigan State, the offense is even worse than that. Purdue, which entered the game ranked last in the conference in rushing defense, pass defense and total defense, held Ohio State to zero or negative yards on 22 of 56 offensive plays. Given that quarterback Terrelle Pryor threw just four incompletions, illustrating how little Ohio State moved the ball in totaling just 222 yards of offense. The Buckeyes enter this week ranked 94th in the nation and 10th in the league in total offense, averaging 320 yards per game. Passing, Ohio State is last in the league and 108th in the country, averaging 143 yards per game. Pryor has been held under 100 yards passing in two of his four starts. "We're not executing," coach Jim Tressel said. "We know we've got to get better." But don't expect a change back to senior Todd Boeckman at quarterback anytime soon. Despite the offense's struggles, Tressel remains committed to Pryor, his star freshman recruit. Tressel didn't rule out Boeckman possibly appearing again at some point, but he certainly didn't commit to it, either. He only said Boeckman would appear if the situation is right. And what situation would that be? "You'll know the moment it happens," he said. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved. | ||||||||||||
