Creation

What is a Group?
A Group is a community within our Community. Community members can create their own Group or become a member of an existing Group. Groups will allow users to interact with other users with similar interests in one location.

How do I create a Group?
To create a Group, first your Community reputation level must be at either an All-Star or Superstar. Click on the 'Groups' link in the secondary navigation on any page in the Community. The 'Groups' link will take you to the Groups home page, where you'll be able to create a Group or join a Group by going through a few easy steps.

Why can't I create [insert name] Group?
Certain names are unavailable because CBSSports.com will be using them for Groups run by the CBSSports.com staff. Also, names using profanity will not be accepted.

How can I find my Groups?
You can access your Groups by clicking on the 'Groups' link in the secondary navigation on any page in the Community. The 'Groups' link will take you to the Groups home page, where you'll be able to see the Group that you own, if you own a Group, and the Groups you are a member of. All of the Groups that you are a member of and own can be found in the 'My Groups' box on the Groups home page. You can also see a list of all of the Groups that you are a part of by clicking on the 'My Groups' link in the navigation.

How do I find/join other Groups?
There are a number of ways in which you can find/join other Groups. You can find other Groups by clicking on the 'Groups' link in the secondary navigation on any page in the Community. The 'Groups' link will take you to the Groups home page, where you'll be able to search for a Group by interest or name. You will also see a list of the 'Most Popular' and the 'Most Active' Groups in the Community. The 'Featured Groups' can also be found on the Groups home page. If you are not a member of a Group, you will see a link to 'Join Group' underneath each Group that you come across. (Note: Any member of the Community can join a Group or post in a Group. Only Group Owners need to be at either an All-Star or Superstar level).

Why has my Group's URL been selected for me?
Your Group URL is automatically generated and is based on your Group's name for easy referencing. For instance, if your Group's name is John Doe, then your Group's URL will be: http://john-doe.Groups.sportsline.com. Note that a dash (-) will replace any space that is in your Group's name. However, if your Group's name has special characters in it, then you will be prompted with options that closely match your Group's name to choose from.

Can I change my Group's URL?
No. Once a URL has been generated, it will become a permanent part of your member profile.

I am the Group Owner, can I change my Group's name?
No. Once you select a name for your Group, you cannot change it. However, you can alter the 'About This Group' and 'Group Interests' as much as you like.

Can I own two or more Groups at the same time?
No. Each eligible Community member is allowed to own only one Group at a time. However, you can join as many Groups as you'd like.

Moderation

How is moderation handled for Groups?
Moderation for Groups is handled by each individual Group's owner. The CBSSports.com moderation staff will only intervene if there is suspicion of illegal activity. If you have issues with the behavior of other members in a Group you belong to, please PM the owner of that Group for resolution.

How do I moderate my Group?
After the initial set up of the Group, the Group Owner will see 'Moderator Tools' below the Top Members Online box on any page within the Group. There are three Moderator Tools tabs that the Group Owner has to work with: General, Members and Posts.

  1. General: The General link will allow the Group Owner to alter the original settings of the Group. The Group Owner will have the ability to change the About This Group, Group Interests, Membership Moderated, Posts Moderated, Who Can Post and Who Can Comment options at any time.
  2. Members: The Members link will allow the Group Owner to approve or deny any Community member who selected to join the Group. Even denied members will stay on the Members page, in case the Group Owner would like to accept the denied member at a later date. (Note: 'Yes' must be selected for 'Membership Moderated' to get this behavior on the Members page.)
  3. Posts: The Posts link will allow the Group Owner to approve or deny any posts made to the Group. (Note: 'Yes' must be selected for 'Posts Moderated' to get this behavior on the Posts page.)

Why did I get kicked out of a Group?
The Group Owner has the ability to kick out any Group member at any time as they see fit. The Group Owner does not need to provide a reason for kicking out a Group member, and CBSSports.com's moderation team will not investigate issues regarding Group membership in user owned Groups.

Why can't I post/comment in a Group?
If the Group Owner has selected to run the Group by allowing only Group members to post, non-Group members will not be able to post on that Group. (Note: The Group Owner has the ability to allow non-Group members to comment as well.)

Will Groups be moderated by administrators?
Groups will be moderated for illegal content only. If you believe a Group post/avatar includes illegal content, please alert the Group Owner. The Group Owner has the responsibility to remove all posts which contain illegal content. (Note: Only contact the Help Desk if your Group has been deleted.)

Why was my Group deleted?
If your Group has been deleted please contact the Help Desk by clicking 'Help' at the top or bottom of any page on the site.

Why was my Group post/comment deleted?
The Group Owner has the ability delete any post or comment, regardless of the Group's settings. The Group Owner does not need to provide a reason for deleting a post or comment; it's entirely up to them.

Why can't I rate/warn within a Group?
There are no ratings or warnings within a Group because there are fewer restrictions in a Group. With the exception of CBSSports.com run Groups, members have the freedom to say what they want as long as it is not illegal. All illegal posts should be reported to the Group's owner for immediate removal. (Note: The Message Boards continue to give Community members the option to warn or rate a post.) If you have an issue with a post or comment within a Group, please PM the Group Owner for assistance.

I don't agree with this Group. What can I do?
If you don't agree with something you find in a Group, please work with the Group's owner to get it resolved. (Note: The Group Owner has final say on what stays and what goes on the site, as long as it is legal.)

What happens to my Group if I'm banned?

All interested eligible member of the Group must Private Message Community member 'Group Moderator' (http://www.sportsline.com/mcc/authors/author/309146) about taking over as the Group Owner. The member that receives the most votes, within a 24-hour period (weekdays only), will take ownership of the Group. (Note: If only one eligible Group member shows interest in taking ownership, that member will receive ownership of the Group.)

How do I give up ownership of a Group?
If an owner wants to give up ownership of a particular Group, they can simply click on the 'Give Up Ownership' button under their avatar in the 'My Groups' box or under their avatar on the 'Group Home' page. (Note: After giving up ownership the former Group Owner can nominate an eligible Group member to take over ownership. The former Group Owner should Private Message Community member 'Group Moderator' (http://www.sportsline.com/mcc/authors/author/309146) with their nominee.)
