John Patterson the next Dave Duncan experiment?

Posted on: March 21, 2008 12:12 pm

It is official, the Washington Nationals have parted ways with once promising John Patterson. He was labeled "a rehabilitation-in-progress" by their skipper Manny Acta and he said that it was a move that was best for both parties. The good news for John Patterson and any potential rehabilitating venturists, is that he is still just 30 years old and his 2005 strikeout total of 185 is not that far off. Even Chris Carpenter was once considered a gamble and he ended up leading the Cardinals to two World Series and one title, so I am sure Patterson will find a taker not too late into the season.

John Patterson is a bigger gamble the Carpenter in my opinion. Patterson had one good season and has found a way to land himself on the disabled list every year. Very interesting that you bring this up though.

Without a doubt I agree with you there. Chris Carpenter was definitely a better option than John Patterson would be at this point. I am not saying that I want it or don't at this point, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I found out he was released.

Personally I hope it doesn't happen.

I wouldn't be suprised if St. Louis takes a shot on him though. He does have nasty stuff. Unfortunatley we haven't been able to see if for a couple of years.

If it is a deal like Mark Prior's and Matt Clement's, then I probably wouldn't be too upset with it. Why not stick the guy in the minors for a year or so and let him rehab down there. It is not like the Cardinals have a boat load of prospective pitchers jamming the line to get to the majors. He is only 30 so to I don't think we should completely count him out to any type of respectable comeback.

About What Grinds My Gears.
Do you want to know what grinds my gears? What grinds my gears is when dumb athletes.....Roger Clemens......Derek Jeter.....go on and on about this I thought it was innocent until proven guilty, and how it used to be innocent until proven guilty. I just wish people would think before they ever make this stupid comment again. It makes absolutely no sense and has absolutely no baring. First of all, the only people that innocent until proven guilty apply to are Judges and Jurors PERIOD. Not the public and certainly not investigators. Could you imagine how this world would be if any type of investigator would believe the people they are pursuing are innocent? "Ehhh this guy is innocent so why pursue him?" Understand me? On top of that, if it were the public courts responsibility to take all people getting accused as innocent until proven guilty, who is to say what it takes to prove an individual. Proof is as subjective as it can get. To some people it takes a lot, and others just a little straw. The public has never operated in an innocent until proven guilty fashion. Just take a look at history. Witch hunts, "Commi" searches, and plenty of other examples. So Jeter, Clemens, and anybody else that wants to whine about innocence until proven guilty, please use your head and shut your mouth next time.
