Asterisk to be placed next to the Patriots record

Asterisk to be placed next to the Patriots record?

In my opinion, If the Patriots go onto win the Superbowl, I'd be the first one to say that an asterisk should be placed next to their record and team. Yes we all know they were caught cheating in week 1 versus the Jets, but think about it, how could they possible have won those very close games by a surprisingly miracle? Come on! Only juggernauts do that! and obviously this Patriots team are NOT.

What do the rest think? Im not saying this cause Im a Dolphins fan or anything but many people and other fans have the same opinion as I do.

What would you suggest happen if the Patriots don't win the Superbowl? I know you're certainly far from the first to recommend the asterisk, though I'd never doubt you'd like the credit for it. Please lets get this rule infraction straight once and for all. I'll spell it out to you if I may... The Patriots were caught in an infraction of NFL rules ie, Taping from an unauthorized site (call it site A), instead of one of the authorized sites, (B, C, D, E, F and so on). Are you still following me? It's similar to being caught offside, encroachment, illegal player down field, pass interference or roughing the passer (is that cheating?). The Jets threw the flag and the penalty was enforced from the point of the infraction (site A). The penalty wasn't a normal 10 yards, it was $750,000, loss of first round draft pick. NFL's ball. The Patriots were penalized in a fairly heavy fashion, but refused to throw the Red Flag. It was an option, but would have delayed the game unnessecarily. There were other rule infractions in that game and they too were penalized in accordance with NFL policy. None of those rules infractions have been beaten to death or called cheating, why? Is this a plain old fashioned case of sour grapes or just double standards? Let it go for crying out loud, unless you think it's a conspiracy, I do love a good conspiracy. So when you say "we all know they were caught cheating in week 1 versus the Jets", you can exclude at least me from your sweeping statement. In my opinion, they were caught in a rules infraction and then penalized. The Jets game wasn't surprising close by any means, and some other games weren't either. At that time many complained about the Patriots Juggernaut running up the scores. After further review, heh heh, some of the many noticed this was common in the game of football, and backed off the bashing a bit. Now the scores are closer, and the Patriots are NOT a Juggernaut. They're falling apart because of age. They are barely able to win without surprising miracles. The miracles for the Patriots were when the Ravens coach called that bad timeout. That's when his team fell apart with penalties. Don't blame Bill Bellichick or the Patriots for that. That was a piece of bad luck for the Dolphins, and good luck for the Patriots. It sure affected you're hope for a Pats loss. You ask what I think, I'm still thinking about conspiracy. Many people don't care for a team that wins as often as the Pats unless they happen to cheer it on. That's part of the story here I think. Many people dislike all Pats fans because some are jerks and true, some are. I remember when the Dolphins set their record and I cheered them on, even though I was a Pats fan. The Pats were 3 and 11 that year. It didn't make the Dolphins a bad team or Don Shula a bad coach. Of coarse there was no internet to fuel the foolishness in those days. Some so called football fans talk about "class" and career ending injury in the same post on this site, have you seen them? How do you feel about that? I'm thinking about Joe Theisman and Darryl Stingley then. When do we hear complaints about this? Who could really wish that? Not me. If the petty asterick is more important to you than that, then by all means continue. It will never mean much to me anyway. It'll be forgotten in 40 years, and pale in comparision to important things that'll happen between now and then. That's my rant for the week.

Asterisk to be placed next to the Patriots record

Sorry to step on your toes here, but I have to disagree with you. I too am a dolphins fan, and as much as I hate the Patriots  I have to say that even if they were caught cheating it was against the Jets, the Jets won 3 games all year. Then they played them again and still beat them and not because they used to the film they were caught cheating with because it was taken. They beat everybody fair and square and now here they are in the Supwerbowl. Now if they had done it against the Colts, Cowboys or San Diego or anybody else that was a clear playoff threat then I would make the argument but like I said the Jets won 3 games.
