Now that Joe Gibbs has stepped down as head coach of the Redskins, we now have a vacancy at the position. The Redskins have met with former Giants coach Jim Fassel three times, which pretty much assures that the front office is seriously considering hiring him. The only other candidate that seems to be a serious possibility is current Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams. Williams has done an amazing job putting together the defense for the Redskins; it seems year after year they have a solid defense that can change a game in a heartbeat. Not only that, but Gregg Williams is a locker-room favourite; it seems that everyone on the Redskins roster loves the way he coaches and loves his mentality about the game. It is true that Williams hasn't had much success as a Head Coach over the years; three unimpressive years in Buffalo are the only coaching merits on his resume. That said, though, the pieces are already in place. The Redskins have a playoff-caliber team and, for the first time in a while it would seem, some chemistry.
No offense to Jim Fassel, but he is not what the Redskins need. I'm not saying that we should go out and get a big-name coach just because he is a big-name coach (*cough cough Bill Cowher cough*), but surely we can do better than Jim Fassel.

Jim Fassel?I am a true Redskins fan and I can not understand why Jim Fassel would even be considered as Head Coach. Gregg Williams is the man that would maintain consistency. I am not 100% convinced that Dan Snyder is not got some other plan. It seems odd to me that he has not already filled the position. Jim Fassel is an easy target and if he wants him it should be done rather quickly. I can not imagine that Fassel is listening to any other offers. Is it possible that the Redskins are after an assistant of the Giants or Patriots and they are trying to keep the attention on other people until after the super bowl? I have seen Steve Spagnuolo the New York Giants defensive coordinators name mentioned as a possibility. I hope not but I think Dan and Vinny have a problem with Gregg Williams. I must admit that the Dan Snyder era has been very frustrating as a Redskins fan. I keep waiting and hoping that he will grow up and learn how to be a owner and field a team that has a chance to compete and let them compete. I thought Joe Gibbs had things under control. I just hope that what ever choice they end up making the Redskins keep the momentum and we don't have to start all over again. HTTR |

Jim Fassel?Fassel is a good hire. I don't think Cowher wants to have Washingtons owner always standing over him. Jim I don't think he mines so much. |
