Last Mock Draft

Posted on: March 12, 2008 4:26 pm

Alright fellas this is my last mock draft until the week before the draft. Free agency seems to have cooled down a bit and right now we have  a pretty decent idea of what the Bears needs are, which funnily enough is the same as before free agency started.

Given that most quality free agent lineman have already signed with new teams I am going to take a bit of a different approach to the draft.

The assumptions:

The Bears will resign Tommie Harris, Devin Hester, and Robbie Gould to long term extensions and not sign any more free agents.

Needs:

OT, OG, FS, SS, WR, RB, QB, DT.

1. Jeff Otah (OT - Pittsburgh) - If you look at the depth chart for the Bears offensive line, it's rediculously scary right now. Hence the need to get some NFL ready lineman in the mix. Good thing the OT class is deep this year.

2. Gosder Cherilus (OT - Boston College) - Normally I would not advocate drafting two players at the same position, especially in the first and second rounds. The depth on the Bears current oline and the depth in the draft warrants this pick. He's to good to pass up at this spot.

3. Steve Justice (C - Wake Forrest) - Olin Kreutz doesn't have that many productive years left. Patrick Mannelly doesn't either as he is getting up there as well. Their replacements need to start getting groomed and Justice is on of the better centers in the draft.

3. Mike McGlynn (OG - Pittsburgh) - This is a good pick here due to his familiarity with Jeff Otah. The learning curve shouldn't be that great. Here's what scouts at the combine had to say about him:

4. Mike Hart (RB - Michigan) - I can't believe he might actually fall this far. The guy has a lot to prove and I think he could be the steal of the draft. Great hands out of the back field, is a bit undersized but makes up for that with heart.

5. Adarius Bowman (WR - Oklahoma State) - Good size and speed for someone his size. Great hands, but again isn't the fastest of WRs. Could benefit greatly from learning form someone like Marty Booker.

6. Colt Brennan (QB - Hawaii)  - He can't have all those NCAA records and suck all that bad. As a 6th round pick, this is a gamble I can live with.

7. Andre Flullen (DT FSU) - Best player available.

Hopefully the safeties can stay healthy this year and Danieal Manning and Brandon McGowan can step it up a little bit.
