PLEASE! Enough with the pornographic avatars!

Posted on: April 15, 2008 1:20 am

Dear Fellow CBS Sports Community Members,

I plead with you: If your user avatar is sexually explicit in any way, PLEASE change it now!

What is the purpose of these message boards? Why did CBS Sports set up this community? It's awesome, isn't it? Personally, I think it's great. Why? Because it's fun and serves as a great break from the stress of everyday living, I can express myself and learn from others, and I can cheer for and defend my teams with and against hundreds of equally passionate fans.

What makes this type of experience possible, in my mind, is the fact that we all buy into the system. Unfortunately, many members of the community have failed to do so. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the valuable contributions of each and every individual. Nevertheless, my values and beliefs are such that I find sexually explicit material to be extremely offensive. Do I expect everyone around me to feel the same way? Of course not (although you may surprised how many people do). I do expect, however, that we all play by the rules. What rules? These:
You will not use the Web Sites to:
...Upload, post, e-mail, transmit, display, distribute, promote, or otherwise make available:...anything that adversely affects CBS business such as discouraging any person or entity from advertising with, linking to or supplying CBS, abusive, libelous, defamatory, obscene, vulgar, offensive, pornographic, profane, racist, sexually explicit, ethnically or culturally offensive, indecent, or that promotes violence, racial hatred, terrorism, or illegal acts, or is otherwise objectionable in Company's sole discretion;
...Company reserves the right to deny access to all or part of the Web Sites and to deny access to any person in its sole discretion without notice or liability of any kind.
http://www.cbsinteractive.com/info/tou

Please abide by these rules. There are other available venues which don't have the same restrictions as the CBS Sports Community.

Additionally, I plead with the officiators and regulators of the CBS SportsLine Online Community to take appropriate disciplinary action if immediate compliance to the TOU does not occur.

Thank you to all who understand the importance of abiding by the rules of this community. Let's have fun!

Sorry, russ, I meant to give you 5 stars...mouse slipped a bit.

In addition to your plea, I'd like to point out the best avatar I've seen on here.  Saintsfan82's avatar is a shot of the New Orleans paper's front page from the year the Saints were added to the league. That is some good stuff.  Granted, I'm a bit biased, but you get my point, right?  It's very unique, it's very sports related, and it shows a major profound fanhood.  Good stuff.

PLEASE! Enough with the pornographic avatars!

I support your position on this. As long as this is a sports site, open to all ages I agree with you. Bump the age to 18 if CBS wants to allow this.

I find may of the avatars to be very sexy and attractive, but I have to admit that with my 8 yr old daughter living with me, I am leary to log on to CBS when she is with me. That is wrong.

These avatars have nothing to do with sports and almost never have any connection to the poster, other than he found a hot pic on the web to download.

I have always posted avatars featuring Colorado Sports, mostly skiing and snowboarding. Thus my SN.

Sometimes they have actually been pictures of me, some that I have taken, some shot by my friends and others that were just shot in Colorado.

I like my link between my avatar and my SN. Not are all able to do that.

But once again, I dont see a need for SI swimsuit pics to be used on this site for avatars.

And I know most here would disagree. Mostly because they have nothing more creative or stimulating to draw attention to themselves.

Just my 2¢
