I would rather be a crappy division 1 team because its easier to recruit. And eventually, maybe, just maybe, you can turn your team into the next Kansas Jayhawks

I think Maty Simmons will turn the program around in a couple years everyone just has to give him time to do it.

I am a bit tardy replying to this but I don't agree completely that Simmons can turn the program around. He doesn't impress me as being a great coach and he's too volatile.

The Aces might get up into the middle of the MVC pack off and on but that's as good as it gets. There is no there there for this program.

I am willing to agree that we need to give Simmons some time, but after that, what?

BTW, I was at U of E when they were D-2 and the stadium was often filled for the big games against KWC and ISU ... and the SIU games were legendary.

The Buse-led title team was amazing.

So I agree that D-2 has its appeal but it would not ever sell again. There's no market for it.

Max,

No offense, but you need to live in this century. Virtually noone outside of the Evansville area has ever heard of Larry Humes, and if they know Jerry Sloan, it's only as coach of the Jazz. And even if Evansville went back to D-II, it wouldn't be the same. People can watch any number of games from around the country 7 days a week, and most of the teams the Aces used to battle under McCutchan are now D-1 (SIU, Butler, Indiana St., Ball St) so they wouldn't have those rivalries. So I say it's best to just stick it out in D-1 and do the best they can, even if that isn't that great.

Agreed:

There are no rivalries left for a D-II program.
Cal Bakersfield and Virginia Union and South Louisiana Technical-Baton Rouge and or whatever ... it would be more fun to try to upset North Carolina.

I recall attending the NCAA-2 tournament when they held it at Roberts. Saw the great Earl Monroe, for one, as well as George Gervin, a few others who ended up playing in the big-time. I also saw a lot of ordinary slow 6-3 cant-jump duds.

The Aces need to stop pretending they are still in D-2, however.
From what I have seen, the 1965 team, if it suited up today, could hold its own for a half against Marty's train wreck.

Are you kidding me? The money at the D 1 level vs D2 Evansville will be ok and once every 5 years or so make a run at the top of the mvc. Wow that is exactly what crews did funny how our expectation change
