You know we need one of these threads on here.
They are on all the others.
There are a lot of good programs out there with long histories and some up and coming.
Name your favorite team.
Why your root for them.
Born into it.
It is the state I am from.
My mom or dad went there.
I went there.
My friend went there.
I follow that coach.

I am a Maryland Lady Terp fan.
Imagine that <G'> .
I went there.
My daughter is a Freshman there.
And I have lived much of my adult life in Maryland.
But mostly I became a fan when I went there in the 70's.

Cutler mania it is a lot slower over here.
But it is nice there is a place for some of the sports that may not have the big following just the same.

The LADY MONARCHS of Old Dominion U. Probably the third best womens team ever (Tenn, UCONN)... We are 13th, but will soon be in the top 10 come the end of regular season.

You have a good one, Old Dominion sure has a strong team and a long tradition in Women Basket Ball.
The sure don't have Mens Basket Ball or Football on a national level.
But their Lady Hoops are pretty good.
The may not be quite local to the DC/Maryland area but they are close.

Tennessee Lady Volunteers!!! Pat Summit rocks.
Even though I live in a D.C. suburb, I got hooked on Women's College Basketball watching the Lady Vols beat the tar out of another team in 1982. I've been a Lady Vols fan ever since. I have the Sports Pack from DirecTV to see them on Fox Sports South.
Number 8 in 2008!!!!!

Uconn Huskies
It is my Alma Mater and they gave me and my mom wonderful times together before she passed. In the '80s and '90s, you could go to their games, and the players would say hi to my mom, or send a birthday card. She wasn't rich or famous, but she was a great fan and the team showed a lot of class and made her smile. I moved and she is gone, but I will always support them.

Pitt Panthers!
I'm a recent Pitt grad, played in the pep band there. So much fun. College Bball quickly became my second favorite sport, and really might end up as my favorite if my baseball team never gets any good again.

Tennessee Lady Volunteers
Just became a fan a few years ago. Watched them play in Cleveland in the Sweet 16, but missed out on last year's championship.
No reason in particular, although a friend does go there. I just like the team, and of course, Pat Summitt is the best coach ever.
I was able to go to my first home game a couple weeks ago, and it was amazing.

Hey BMouly, supprise <G'> .
My daughter is there now.
She loves people, not what you would call party person but loves people.
With 36,000 pluss students there is something going on all the time.
With the large number of folks from New Jersey attending and Giants fans the place was busy until early monday morning.
Being too social is the big risk at a school like Maryland.
In that sence you can get lost, with no one looking after you.
When I went there the population was 48,000. The state did a bunch of reduction things sence then. My daughter would say we have color TV now too.
There are some good Womens Basketball fans on this board.

GO LADY VOLS!!!
I am an original Vol and a "good" portion of my family went there!!
I really like the team ball they play and the passion with which they play the game.
Coach Summitt is "pure passion" for Lady Vols basketball and a high standard of excellence.
Looking forward to the Championship game AGAIN!!!!

JD - hey my man...not surprising you posted this here...
Who else for me but the Iowa Hawkeyes!!!
Born into it and used to love having C Vivian Stringer for a coach before she went to Rutgers...she is such a class act. I wish her and Rutgers well and saw they just knocked off UConn.
Bluder has the lady Hawkeyes on a roll and in first in the Big 10. Iowa has some history in women's bball, not like UConn or Tenn or other schools, but some.
Also, Iowa was the last state in the union to shut down their high school 6 on 6 program. Now if you have never seen any of that...it was interesting, but I do like the game of today for them.
Mostly I follow some women's sports cause I have two daughters and I want them to play sports and see that women can compete as well so they get a lifetime of enjoyment like I have, especially basketball.
Go Hawkeyes!

It's also nice that here on the women's board you don't get flamed for liking your team.
"Derrr you're a homer!"
"Why yes, I am a fan of a particular team, and as such know more about said team than the other teams in the sport."
Also, for those Maryland fans over here, let me say I'm half on the Terps side. I live in MD now and my girlfriend is in grad school there. I went to see the men beat up on Savannah State earlier in the season. Good times.

Hey Hawkeye, good to see you here.
It is fun to figure how we became fans of a particular team or teams.
I have two kids. One daughter who played three sports, fast pitch softball, basketball and field hockey, plus swam year round until each had to give way to racing.
She is a freshman at Maryland in Engineering, but might change to business or something else.
I like lots of sports.
But I guess I am always real into what the kids are doing.
Her brother is 18 years older and was big into baseball.
