Correct. However I do not want my tax dollars going to fix someone elses mistake. I don't like publicly funded abortions. I don't want to be an accomplice to a life being snuffed out. You have the right, but do it with your own money.

Fine, you won't have to pay for any abortions (do you have to now?).  It seems we agree on this.  What's your problem with my stand here?

Because firing someone because of their state of being is illegal

As it should be. The same rule should apply to someones state of mind. Why does the way we think not get protected by civil rights, but what turns us on does? Seems very arbitrary to me. Both should be covered.

Also, this state of being thing I find vague. I do think some people are more prone to be gay than others, but I have failed to see the evidence proving that being gay is biological and not neurological. I have no problem with gays either way. It's their choice, so be it. I'm just saying that the state of being argument is not very rigorous in my mind.

Look, right now there is a group of people being denied the rights of the majority simply because of bigotry, fear, and hate.  Just like segregation, this is not a "state issue".

Eh, shades of grey here. I agree that if we were arguing "should being homosexual be against the law" then you're right. Not a state issue. Being gay is not against the law and should not be cause for discrimination.

We're arguing something specific and something that is a definition though, not a right. Marriage was a religious creation, not a governmental one. Government co-opted marriage and uses it as a legal institution now. So I think the question of who can be married is a relevant one. So I do think marriage is between a man and a woman by definition. I think the gays should get the same rights as those couples in civil unions though.

Either is abortion.  It's a civil rights issue.

Completely disagree here. Where do you draw the line? Is stealing a civil rights issue? Is murder? Of course not. The problem of abortion is where do we define what a human being is. This is legitimate discussion and not something that can be trivialized as a civil right. This is a specific issue not covered by the constitution so it is a states right in my opinion until someday it is somehow proven when life beings.

I don't have a problem with your stand. I wasn't responding to your post there, so I don't know what the issue was?

I do think some of our tax dollars go to provide for abortions for the poor. I'd honetly rather they give it to them in cash or food than have my money go to preventing something from being able to live. Honestly it is practical though. I just don't know about ethical.

Ok, so let's say that cranium-man is employed by an university.  He makes statements saying the stuff he says on this thread.  Does the university have the right to fire him, or should his racism be protected as free thought?

But you need a marriage license from the government to get married, legally.  This is about the benefits of being married.  These benefits have nothing to do with religion.

What would cost the tax payers more money, an abortion or possibly 18 years of state assistance, or the state costs for foster care?

Going to focus in on the last couple minutes of the Lakers game now.  About to close out the Jazz.  My boys (who I'm glad are here rather than having been aborted, since we did plan for them) want me to get ready to celebrate.  Later.
