First off, I'll resist responding defensively to your bandwagon comment, because I've probably been following UMass and the Red Sox since you were sucking your thumb, sonny (Oh, I went and did it anyway). Leave off the insults and try to have an intelligent conversation, 'kay. I have a different opinion than you, it's not necessary to count me as your enemy or an enemy of UMass.

Okay, how am I biased? I don't get that one. The Mullins Center is half empty because not enough people care. Blame that on the AD if you want, but I blame it on too many years of Bruiser "yawn" ball, and Lappas's high school-level motion offense. Travis Ford, and his system, is bringing some excitement back to the game. The fans, students mostly, need to folow. Comparing UMass with the Red Sox doesn't make sense, because their competition all plays in the same league, while the NCAA plays in many different conferences of all sizes and budgets. Define mid-major any way you want. the A-10 is a mid-major conference, whether Xavier wants to acknowledge that or not. I doubt that Travis Ford shares your belief that he is shopping in the bargain bin.

The bottom line is that you want them to be North Carolina, and I do not. I think Ford is practicing a wise recruiting stategy, and you do not. I don't think UMass needs a prototypical point guard, shooting guard, swing man, power forward, center lineup, and you do. You haven't explained to me why.

Redsoxnation,

Hoping Coach Ford sticks around for the long run.  Since (SEC) schools will be eyeballing him tonight.

Your UMass next year.  1) Whats your starting lineup 2) How far do you have the program going/Expectations (remember this would be Coach Ford's 4th year) 3) How are you increasing the attendance rate at the Mullins Center 4)  How are you going to avoid the states best prospects from signing elsewhere

Lets say I'm the AD you work for me:  I say Redsoxnation.  This is your contract you have 3 years to get this program headed in the right direction.  I expect (1) NCAA appearance by your 3rd year in office, I expect you to sign (1) Mr. Basketball/McDonald All American (4-5 Star Prospect).  I expect a full house @ Mullins Center , I want the buzz and excitement back in Amherst, MA.  If you agree sign on the dotted line ...............................

Well, I'm not sure if Ford knows who his starting five will be next year, and I'm not sure it matters. I'll quote myself from my original post: "Ford is trying to go quick and athletic, with a wealth of players who can shoot and run the other team into the ground with a constant supply of fresh legs." My point has been that the traditional starting five doesn't apply in the case of what Ford is trying to do. In my opinion, there is a plan; there is a blueprint. Follow the recruiting, and read this article:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/grant_wahl/02/12/m
emphis0218/

Then maybe you'll see where I'm coming from. Ford is looking for players to fit this "system," rather than competing for
"Mr. Basketball/McDonald All American." If Ford's plan works, they'll play an exciting brand of consistent winning basketball, and hopefully the students will get away from their bongs long enough to go to a few games. Ford can't control that. I will be disappointed if they don't win a game in the NCAA tournament next year.

Go UMass. Don't go, Travis.

Travis Ford appears to be committed at UMass.  He expects a sold out venue next year for home games.  Minutemen under Ford's regime have had an excellent home record but the attendance has been dismal.
