Who is the greatest former Aggie Hoopster?  I apologize for all the great players I haven't included.  Who do you think I missed?    Personally, Steve Colter is the best I've ever seen play for the Aggies.  Icewater in his veins with the game on the line.

All around best I would have to say Randy Brown.  Best Aggie defender ever.  Could get to the Rim.  Talk about ice in the veins.... he was the ultimate team leader and helped beat the eventual champion UNLV Rebels.  Also, as a senior,  he took a freshman under his wing by the name of Sam Crawford (should be considered also) ,who as a Senior took the Aggies to the sweet 16.

You can't forget about Sam Lacey. Lead the Aggies to the final four.

Lightninlaz, Sam Crawford was never on the same team as Randy Brown. Sam Crawford came to NMSU as a Jr from Moorpark C.C. and he was a Jr  when he took NMSU to the Sweet 16 not a Senior. As a senior Sam Crawford led one of the most underacheiving Aggie squads to a first round upset over Nebraska before getting crushed by Cincinnati two days later. Just wanted to make sure we get all the facts straight when 'we' start kicking knowledge!

Channing was fun to watch. Great stroke. Is he playing overseas?  Anybody know?

Where are they now?  LOL.

I'm not sure if they were the best of all time, but I know you guys remeber Reggie Jordan, Chris Hickman, Keith Hill.....and I know every REAL Aggie fan remembers Chris Lopez.  Those were the days.

U forgot to drop William Benjamin s name as well. William Benjamin still lives in Las Cruces after all these years. Tracey Ware, James Dockery and the human dunking machine Cliff Reed! Yes indeed those were the days! 6 straight NCAA appearances, I think with the great group of young players NMSU has now and the awesome recruiting class coming in they can  go beyond 6 straight NCAA appearances! I dont think people give coach Menzies enough credit for the job he has done this year. Since all players became eligable they have gotten better each game. NMSU has lost 3 games at home this year but, they still have a scoring margin of victory of over 20 points per game at home and  the last 6 home games it has gone up to 30 points per game! Truly a sign of good things to come! Go AGGIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keith Hill will always be remembered for banking in that shot that but UNLV away,  giving the Aggies their first win over UNLV. It was one of the most exciting games I have ever attended, and really set-up the Aggies for the next couple of years. After that moment they were not taken lightly, and the Pan American Center truly became one of the most feared arenas in the country. The students stopped turning up for only the big games and started showing up for every game, no matter who the opponent was.

Lots of people have said the shot was luck, while others insist he made the shot exactly the way he planned. But regardless, that single shot was a huge moment in Aggie basketball, and one I will never forget.
