Only someone who has cheated during their life would defend a cheater..whether other teams did it or the extent of the advantage is irrelevant...he cheated, he got caught.  If other teams are doing it, they deserve to get caught and punished.

Patriots fans are soooo dumb and ignorant. Instead of making excuses like Roger Clemens and Barry bonds, why don't you guys man up and take some responsibility.  Your got caught cheating RED HANDED!!!  It helped your team win, and win championships!

I'm an IU hoosiers fan.  Calvin Sampson cheated and we all wanted him gone.  Period. Even after we've been having our best year in over a decade.  We didn't sit there and make excuses like "everyone's doing it" (which they are), or say that it didn't give them an advantage (which it didn't). The bottom line is that he cheated, and he got caught.  If it didn't give them an advantage, then why the he** did he do it? He should be fired for being so stupid.

If you want to say that most teams try to steal other teams signals then I will agree with you.  Should we consider it cheating?  That is debatable.

The fact that most of you Patriots defenders are ignoring is that Bill Belichick admitted that he was filming from locations that were against the rules. He thought there was a gray area in the rules which means he knew he could possibly be breaking the rules. He did not ask about the gray area because he wanted to continue to break the rules. He was using locations that gave him a better chance to steal the signals.

So if you want to say that stealing signals is no big deal because most everyone does it then fine but Belichick was using illegal locations to film from and that gave him an advantage or he would not have done it.

If Belichick was recording other teams practices or walk-thru's then that is blatant cheating but that has not been proved yet.

The NFL is a powerful corporation and they are going to encourage guys like Mike Freeman to write articles that squash this subject. The NFL desperately wants this to go away and will use any means possible.
