I see the birds have made it a priority to acquire a solid number 1 wide receiver this offseason by going after both Larry Fitzgerald and Randy Moss.  If  they don't get a big name through a trade(rumored to be looking at Torry Holt and Chad Johnson) they should take that same focus into the draft.  Use that first or second round draft pick on a WR and give Donovan that go to guy that he needs.

I like your thoughts about trying to get a "go to guy" in the draft, but a WR needs time to get used to the system and the NFL. But as I read in an eariler post someone made the point about the Eagles driving the ball to the red zone and then having trouble scoring a TD. To me that would mean size. There are a few guys in the draft with that size I like.6'5" or taller would be nice. The guy from Indiana is listed at 6'7"...nice. Also, there is another guy (I am sorry I can't remember his name) but he is a top WR and list at 6'5". I think this is what we need to score more in teh Red Zone.

i think you are right about a sizeable receiver, but by the same token we do not use Hank Baskett at all.

i think you are thinking of james hardy and limas sweed mccarfferty. Limas Sweed would be a nice addition in my opinion.

if we get a receiver in the draft it will be for a long run and by the time he is ready McNabb will be gone so we will be crying for a QB. Our only hope is through trade or next years free agency. I hate to say it if we wont win it all in the next two years we will start rebuilding and it will be hard to replace McNabb.

roosky, I concur, Philly really had their shots for a SB title 4 years running with those NFC Championship games. Even though the Eagles made it to the SB with TO and lost to the Patriots, I thought Philly's best shot at a Super Bowl in that run was the year Tampa Bay beat Oakland. I'm wondering if the downslide of McNabb's last years will be somewhat Brett Favre-like for the Eagles ? Was last year's 8-8 season the start of this downslide ?

I do agree that Philly had ample chance to win the SB many years in the recent past, and blew it, but McNabb has been in the league 9 years now, and is really just starting to enter his prime.  If he can fully recover from his injuries and play like the 2004 Donovan McNabb that took the Eagles to the Super Bowl and almost won it (minus some puking...we all know it happened..).  If McNabb can come back the way that he initially went out, in early 05 (which he has showed shades of over the past few seasons) we really don't need a #1 reciever, or go to guy, because McNabb will be able to find 3 recievers per down, and hit them all, like we know he can.

Overall, I don't see the Eagles going for a 'go-to-guy' or a #1WR any more this year.  The Fitzgerald case is finally over, and now we really don't have any more options (Roy Williams, DET and Chad Johnson CIN...you really think either of those teams are giving those recievers up??).  The Eagles may add some more peices, but it doesn't seem like we will make another push for a big-name reciever, instead...we will rely on McNabb to hit 10 targets a game like in times previous.  I am very excited to see the Eagles this year, and I can't wait to roll out my Eagles predictions at the beginning of the year (After the draft...).  Last year I did a very in-depth analysis, and barring miracle turnovers and last minute drives, the Eagles would have wound up with a much better record than 8-8, and much closer to the record I predicted of 12-4.  Lets hope for a great season to come, and I hope you guys will check out my prediction after the pre season.

i do hope mcnabb starts acting like brett favre did like what was said up there. i def think this season will be way better then last season. i guess our wr corp could get the job done, but a rookie that could possibly turn into a impact player wont hurt at all. i hope we get a Adrian Peterson at the wr position this year.

go Eagles!

The Eagles shouldn't draft a wide receiver. There track record is too bad(i dont even have to name some of them for you to know). The other thing is the Eagles aren't in rebuilding stage yet. This is their last year before that and if they wanna win anytime soon it will be this year because next year the big Eagles free agents are Dawkins, Runyan, Thomas, Buckhalter and Considine(and McNabb is getting old). It will be hard to resign all of them and the first 3 are getting pretty old. If the Eagles dont make a super bowl run this year they will have to wait a couple more years for one and thats why they shouldn't draft WR in the draft because it won't make enough of a difference this year and the team is trying to win this year before they have to start rebuilding. By the way isn't Roy Williams in that list of rumored wide receivers that we might be eyeing.

We can "EYE" whoever we want. Are we gonna get roy? No we won't. Be realistic what do we have to offer? Lito? The Lions signed they're 2 starting corners. Bodden and Brian Kelly. The Bengals have two they have invested in also. As far as a draft pick why not take manningham? He runs reverses, takes direct snaps. He's explosive. We wouldnt have to rely as much on a #1 if we have a guy that could draw some attention. If mcnabb's 100% this year we'll be fine. He's done it before with no names he can do it again. We need an explosive return man so we can start at our 40 or midfield at least ONCE in a season. Give mcnabb that kind of field position and he make u pay.
