The Rays seem to screw a player up when they are coming through their farm system. But as soon as they get out they seem to shape up and become the players everyone thought they were. Look and Delmon Young, I'm just starting to wonder.

I don't think it iis fair to blamem the Rays for the actions and choices of their Very young players.  If anything the Rays are guilty of giving a young kid too much money which in turn gives them the financial power to make bad decisions.

For example Elijah Dukes was a bad seed when he attended Hillsborough High.  The Rays had nothing to do with him.  I am very glad to see that getting out of dodge seems to be a good chance for hi mto out grow his problems.

I think its more likely that the Rays are just cursed.  They obviously have drafted well - its not like they're taking guys who aren't coveted by the other teams.  It just seems like a constant series of unfortunate events affects many of their big-time prospects, from Hamilton, Young, Neimann, Wade, Dukes, and now Baldelli.  Of course Crawford has exceeded all expectations, and BJ Upton looks like he's on the cusp of fulfilling his potential.  Hopefully Longoria shows up to be the real deal this year.  It is a shame about Hamilton and Young, and even Dukes (although his troubles appear to have been visible from the start).   Tampa would be a monster if they had all these guys.

You can't blame the Rays for these players bad decisions. If anything it is the lack of veteran influence to help their young players make the right decisions.

I understand that young men make some bad decisions growing up but they are men and they know right from wrong. It is nice to see them move forward with their lives and correct the wrongs they have made.

Delmon Young will be a fine player same as Josh Hamilton. Elijah Dukes is another story, hopefully he can pull it together for the Nationals this season.

Wait - what's wrong with Neimann and Wade?  They are both quality guys that will pitch in the bigs sooner rather than later.  IMHO, I think Neimann is ready to pitch out of the 5-spot.  Put Sonnanstine in the bullpen.

So your telling me the Rays bought the rocks of crack that Hamilton was smoking?  They caused the accident that started all his problems?  Now on Dukes.  His mother was a crack head and his father has spent time jail for murder.  Delmon Young isn't an angel either.  His brother has a alcohol problem too.  Maybe it's on how these guys were raised.  Morons who blame the Rays for this are the same morons who blame kids shooting up schools because of video games and music.

The Rays can't be blamed for the actions of their players, but they can be blamed for not putting the proper emphasis on character when they are evaluating talent.  An organization doesn't want to spend years developing a player only to have him flame out, like Dukes and Hamiliton did.  I guess they can do somethings to help, such trying to provide mentors for these guys, but ultimately, if a player wants to destroy his life, the baseball team can't do anything about it.  The best thing they can do is to spot destructive behavior prior to drafting and signing players.

You are a complete idiot and that is the dumbest thing Ive ever read. Maybe its the Rays fault that players screw up, are immature or are just plain stupid?  Thats right, dont hold these young men responsible, allow them to blame it on their team. Maybe its other ballclubs fault when players get a DUI, use steroids or HGH, use too much pine tar or beat up with wife too.
