I think you guys are solidly in considering Syracuse, Baylor, and Arizona State all lost and they were all on the bubble. Also, UAB and Houston lost today.
I never rooted for Ill. State before but gotta stick with the Illinois teams. But I like how you guys play, I think you guys could pull a 1st round upset given the right draw.

Hey thanks Illini!!!
Would be a bad day for the state of Illinois not to get a team into the Tourny. Jank went to his bench WAY TO SOON in the MVC championship game. He went to the bench 4 minutes into the game when ISU got out early for a 9-4. Then that bad lob inbound pass and it just went downhill from there. Hopefully Jank learns from subbing to soon and let his hot players continue to play HOT HOT HOT.
I do agree, with the teams that just got bounced from the first game of their conference tournies, ISU should be in....

With today's chaos, ISU SHOULD be in, but we will have to wait until Sunday to see. The MVC deserves 2 teams in.

Thanks for the kind words. But ISU, like Missouri State 2 years ago, got screwed out of the tournament, while teams with lower (WAY LOWER) RPI's like Oregon and Villanova got in. Oregon had a conference record of 9-10 and an overall record of 18-13, yet they're in. The selection committee is composed of a bunch of imbeciles.
ISU just needs to win the whole damn thing next year and not leave it in the hands of a bunch of morons just looking to reward teams (like Kentucky) just because of their name.

Yea, and how about Arizona!!!! I just don't know what to say. What really pisses me off is that I honeslty think they didn;t get in beacause of 2/3 of ONE SINGLE GAME!!! The blowout to Drake cost them. I think the committee completely ignored the entire body of work over the year and based it on that final game. 24 wins, strong RPI, a win in Carbondale (where SIU was something like 61-1 against the MVC), a sweep of Creighton.
WHAT A JOKE!!!!

With the "blowout" rationale, how does anyone explain taking Oklahoma who lost by 28 to TEXAS!
Time to go watch the NIT selection show.....

How do you explain it? Easily - big school, "major" conference. The same way you explain Oregon and Villanova and Arizona State making it.
I don't know about you, but I'm really looking forward to seeing the University of Maryland - Baltimore County Retrievers playing. That's the equivalent of the College of Dupage getting in.
I really think think the NCAA has to look at which conferences should get automatic berths. As it stands now, any 6 schools with schlock teams can form a conference and petition the NCAA for an automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs through their conference tournament. This is a joke. Belmont? UT-Arlington? American? Portland St.? Come on.
They should also consider another rule that states that if you're under .500 in you're conference, you're out. The Pac 10 has 2 teams in the playoffs that have a conference record under .500. What kind of BS is that? All those teams have to do is finish a few games over .500 overall and they're in, regardless of their conference record. Heck, if the Illini had won just 2 more games overall, I'm sure they would have been an at-large berth, too. This is a crock.

Sorry, made a mistake. Arizona St. didn't make it. Arizona did. They're under .500 in the Pac 10 also.

:Listen, the team who we should be mad at is South Alabama.
The committee basically said, hey, we're gonna put 2 Sun Belt Conference teams in but only allow 1 Missouri Valley team in the tournament. What a crock.
South Alabama has 4 bad losses, including 2 to Middle Tennessee St, North Texas, and 1 other awful loss. Their best wins were Miss. State and twice to Western Kentucky. Granted, Illinois St.'s best nonconference victory was Cincinnati but they did beat SIU twice, Creigton, and I think they beat Bradley but might be wrong.
I think that's awful. You tell me, ISU or South Alabama? Who's more likely to spring the upset? The team who lost to the likes of Middle Tennessee St twice? Or the team who got 2nd place, got to the final of their conference tournament UNLIKE SOUTH ALABAMA, and played in the 8th best RPI conference.

ISU split with Bradley ILL55INI. ISU also won in Carbondale which has been IMPOSSIBLE for an MVC over the last 4 years. SIU was 61-1 against conference teams until ISU came knockin'. ISU also had a winning record in true road games as well. It just doesn't make sense - at all!!!

Good points, ILL55INI. Yes, ISU split the season series with Bradley, each team winning at home. ISU also beat Wright St. in the Bracket Busters game. Wright State has a solid, if not spectacular team.
With the Valley's overall RPI rank, they deserved to have more than one team making the NCAA dance. The Big East sent EIGHT teams. EIGHT!!! Is that some sort of record?
Anyway, ISU vs. Utah St. on Wednesday at Redbird Arena. Show up, Redbird fans. I want to see more than 4,000 people there. Fan apathy at ISU has bothered me this year, also. I was at the Drake game at Redbird Arena this year, and a ticket could still be had at game time of that one. Crowds at Redbird Arena overall were very disappointing this year, especially with a much-improved team. Bradley and Creighton sell out just about every game, and their schools are much smaller.

Yeah, it's a real shame that we didn't sell out against Drake, a ranked team. I will be pissed if the place isn't packed against Utah St. The team deserves a sell out crowd.

I go to school down in Champaign and had season tickets for the Illini games, about 11 total(didn't count games during Winter Break) but even when they were sucking this year, the fans still came out when we played Purdue, Indiana(especially), Michigan St, and Wisconsin. Yea, there were some empty seats but I'd still say we had a good 14,000-15,000 people at most games in a 16,600 seat stadium.
Ill. State fans need to come out and cheer this team on. I know I would if I went to school there. What a pity. Shows how little the fans care.

Just wanted to say i feel your pain. The USU team of 2004 was ranked 24th in the Nation and did not get a bid. Last year we beat Nevada twice in 10 days and lost in the turnament by 2 and did not get a bid.
Oh well may the best team win on Wednesday. With the home court you should be very tough to beat.
You never know about USU. They are rebuilding this year and start two freshmen, but they beat Boise, who beat BYU, at home but 19. We also beat IOWA this year. Good luck to us both.
Go Aggies!

Yep, Utah St. is no slouch. They've consistently had good teams, and they've beaten ISU in Normal in the past, so they know the road to Central Illinois. Should be a good game.

Alo reminds me of when Missouri St. didn't make it a few years back when they had an RPI of 24. But at that time, I think the MVC had 3 or 4 other teams in the tournament.
Missouri Valley continouly gets less respect despite having had high success rates in the tournament. First with Creighton in the early and middle part of this decade, then with Southern Illinois, Wi | |
