I am an avid Buckeye fan, but I have this funny feeling that tOSU is going to make it to the NIT Finals, then lose the Championship to ANOTHER SEC TEAM (Florida)... Haha, I don't think Florida is better than us, but the way things have gone the past couple of years, that hasn't really mattered... Although I guess the Championship curse has been broken, we did win the 2008 NCAA Fencing Championship a few days back... Haha any thought..?

The team seems really focused and they feel like they have a lot of pressure off themselves, which is nice for a change. I can see them winning it all and making a statement that they really could have done something in the NCAA's

My concern starts once tOSU leaves their home floor. They haven't been a good road team this year. If they win the first game at MSG, then watch out!

Glad to see that eleventy-billion dollar budget is finally paying dividends for OSU.
If you think about it, if OSU meets UF in the finals, it's a no win situation for you. If you win, people say "big deal, you beat a rebuilt FL team of freshmen in the NIT. Beat them in the BCS, then brag." But if you lose, you have to hear claims of ownership from UF fans again.
What to do, what to do......?

Gatorz:
I agree completely. I know I will probably get mugged by my fellow Bucks, but if UF looks like they are going to the title game of the NIT, I sincerely hope the Bucks lose and not face them. It isn't because I think this particular UF team is better than us, it's that the situation is lose, lose. If we beat UF for the NIT title, we can't brag about it. An NIT is not even close to compensation for a lost NCAA championship. So who really cares? All a gator fan has to say is " You got an NIT, we' ve got 2 NCAA's, yeah you really got even with us." And they would be right. So why bother risking another humiliation at the hands of your Gators.

The pessimism here can be measured with a seizmagraph. The Buckeyes Basketball team was fifth best in the Big Ten. They are in the tourney they belong in based on their performance. The will win or lose this tourney based on that same perfomance. I believe they will play well and do good. Take your black cat and broken mirror suprstitions elsewhere please.

UF first has to get through ASU in a game played in Tempe. ASU is a well-coached team (Herb Sendek, Thad's mentor) with a lot of talent that really should've been in the NCAA field also. I've watched ASU all season and attended their 22 pt.-win over Xavier. Though, admittedly, I've only watched the Gators 2-3 times, I think the Sun Devils can take them.
OSU still has to win two games yet just to get to MSG. If your scenario plays out then we'll talk next week. Maybe the real worst case scenario is OSU-ASU with two old dear friends having to coach against each other, much like OSU-Xavier last year.

You mean, of course, with our rebuilt OSU team of freshmen. Not sure I see the point either way. The past games are done and over with, neither school has those teams anymore, so ownership is a rather moot point, wouldn't you say?
I don't really care how FL does in the NIT except that if they get in our way, I hope we beat them again. I just want my Bucks to do well, regardless of the opponent.

Is this the same view you take when pointing out your recent victories over Michigan in football? Or do you say "It's a new season. We are 0-0."?
The point is that in this ongoing battle with UF/OSU fans lately, winning the NIT against UF won't give you the kind of ammo that you might hope for.

I know I don't want to get owned twice in the same season by OSU. It was embarrassing enough on our home court. If we do make it I want to beat them. They are also a very young team, next year both these teams could be a force to be reckoned with.

While the optimism is impressive, you guys are looking waaaaay to far ahead. Are you really going to discount UD that quickly in your next game? If the players have the same over confidence the fans seem to be showing then you're in for a wake up call. You'll be facing a tough UD squad. One which has Chris Wright back, and dominating in his first game back tonight.
Grats on your win tonight, I am certainly looking forward to the next game. And don't worry Syracuse will make it to the finals before UF does, unless UMass manages to knock them off but I am doubting that

The point is that in this ongoing battle with UF/OSU fans lately, winning the NIT against UF won't give you the kind of ammo that you might hope for. First of all, when have you ever seen me bring up the OSU win streak over UM except as rebuttal to a UM fan talking smack? Secondly, since the UM game is always the last game of the season, I would never say "We are 0-0." We would always have games against common opponents to gauge our teams against if it came to that. Third, my point was that the Gators and the Buckeyes both had completely different teams this year (in both football and basketball) than the teams that met in the respective championship games. Therefore, "ownership" carried over from those teams is rather meaningless as those teams will never play again. All we can cheer for is a win by our current team over whoever they happen to play - and right now, UD is our next opponent. Finally, I am not looking for ammo of any kind - we already beat your team once this year, and if we play again, I would hope for a repeat, but beyond that, I really don't care about Florida. Why are you so concerned about protecting your "ownership?"

I have insecurity issues, and a bad lisp. Plus I suck my thumb. And I wet the bed. All at 30 years of age. So let me ride my team's coattails in peace, will ya?

No, never.
If the players have the same over confidence the fans seem to be showing then you're in for a wake up call.
They won't, for two reasons:
1) With the quick turnaround there won't be enough time to be gloating about anything.
2) They have a coach who wouldn't let them, anyway.
You'll be facing a tough UD squad. One which has Chris Wright back, and dominating in his first game back tonight.

Good points, all, Flyer. Of course, the thread's originator could always come back with a smart-ass remark such as: "If you don't want to play along with the premise, then why are you wasting your time posting here?" But I won't do that.
Actually, I don't get on the fans' case for looking ahead. Do you know why? Because the media always seems to be doing it for them anyway. One day after this year's NC football game and ESPN, CBS, and others were already listing their Top 5 for the 2008 season. ESPN had been doing "In/Out" for at least the past 5 weeks. Who can really say who is in and who is out of the NCAA field with an entire month of the regular season left to play? I swear if you search hard enough, 30 minutes after the nets come down on April 7th you'll probably be able to find somebody projecting next year's 65-team NCAA field!
I guess we're just an impatient instant-gratification society. But if we weren't busy playing all of these guessing-games we'd all actually have to get real lives or something.

I have a life. I was thinking more along the lines of actually getting something done at work....
