I never see the 1990 BSU team on any of these lists.  Gary Payton was on the cover of SI that year and said, 'Ball State Who?"  If I remember right we got fouled with nothing on the clock, and hit two free throws to throw Oregon State out of the tourney.  Next against Louisville we won by one, and then played UNLV.  Dicky V. went nuts when Chandler Thompson dunked over the top of the Louisville guys, and then grabbed a rebound over three UNLV players while dunking.  It was beautiful.  UNLV wore Ball State hats when they got off of the plane the next year to remember how close they were to losing it.    I remember the final seconds so well. (right or wrong this is how I remember it) Whomever took the inbound pass slipped and fell, and then passed it off.  Larry Johnson then put his hand on that persons back, and basically held him down for the last few seconds.  Mike Spicer took the ball to around the top of the key, and then went up for the shot, but instead of shooting he passed into the paint where no one was ready for it.  Never mentioned.

It migh have helped if Spicer was taller than a 7th grader. Well that was a great run but we need to get there in modern times . 28 years ago is now a lifetime.

It would be fantastic to see Ball State be one of thos mid-major upset artists.  Gonzaga, Ill St.,  the MAC usually has one.  It just hasn't been us for a long time.
