UMass is onto the quarterfinals of the NIT to face 'Cuse in the Carrier Dome.  To beat Syracuse at home twice in the same season is not going to be an easy task.  I have a feeling that the Orangemen are still stung from the 107 point they gave up to the Minutemen in November (I believe that is the record for most points scored by an opponent in the Carrier Dome).  Plus Jim Boehein is an excellent coach and will have his team very prepared....I'm sure the tape from the 11/28 game is burned into his and his team's heads........Syracuse is a young team and will be better this time around than the team UMass played in November b/c now that they have a full season behind them and have had some time to gell and work on their D ;-) ....I hope coach Ford has UMass prepared for a brawl.  The game is prime-time on ESPN and it should be a great one......I am very much looking forward to watching it (although I'm bummed out there couldn't be another game in Amherst.

This will be great exposure for Gary Forbes (NBA aspirations), the younger guys (Harris, Lowe, Correia , Glass, et-cetera to get some good tournament experience), and for the the program as a whole (recruiting/marketing).

It would be nice to see them go into to next season with some real momentum....3+ wins in the NIT would be some good momentum.  Plus a UMass v. AZ State / Florida game would be very very fun to watch.

Go UMASS!!!!

It's crazy to look at the NIT field and see the likes of Ohio State, Florida, Syracuse and now UMass all fighting for the NIT title. Like was said, to beat Syracuse again is going to be tough. Too bad we didn't get the #1 seed and 'Cuse the #2 because then the Mullins Center would be absolutely insane tomorrow night. A prime-time ESPN game will be huge for this program and hopefully we can pull out another W and move on to MSG for the Final 4.

Last time Umass played Cuse, the offensive cylinders were all firing on full, to have a repeat, the same is going to happen.  Any let down and this young talented Cuse team might stomp all over us.  Lets not forget they scored right up there with us last time, also breaking the 100 barrier.  Will it be tough to beat them twice in a season?  Of course, but at least they have the confidence now to say "We can Win, We have Won!"

Anyway, time will tell, lets go Zoo!

I'm loving the attention umass is getting on ESPN through the NIT.  Though the Big Dance would have been a great way to advertise Travis Ford's rising bball program at UMass, i have no complaints about being able to watch an ENTIRE Umass game on ESPN at 7 PM.  In the NCAA's you might see five minutes of umass in the first round, but instead we get to watch all forty minutes on prime time television.  Anyway, i'm pumped, and just making the postseason is going to help UMass's program get better.  The NCAA's would've been better, but at least the season's still going.  GO UMASS!

Its nice to get a few more chances to watch Gary Forbes play in a umass uniform. I know there are several players on umass that are from new york and would love to end there careers with a nit championship at madison square garden.

Lets Go Umass!

Attention all U-Mass fans, keep women and children away from tv's or the actual game itself. IT will be very LOUD IN THE DOME and ugly for the minutemen

                          final  SYRACUSE  89

                                     umass      67

remember this will not be apprpriate for women and children

Foolish to think that UMass will only put up 67 points, 40 less than we did the last time these two teams met. I'm sure this will be another exciting game to watch and it will definitely be tough to win twice in the Carrier Dome.

I think Umass is a slightly better team than Syracuse this season. Having recent success against Syracuse in their dome only gives Umass an edge against them, because the Minutemen know they can play well and win there. I think this will be a very good game, but Umass wins in the end. I agree with what has been said about this NIT field, I think it's the toughest field that this tournament has ever had.

Syracuse's 2-3 zone works because these freshman have had a whole year now to learn it.

Umass cannot hit that shooting percentage again.  52% from the field and 45% from 3.

'Cuse by 12 : 85-73

Do you know how many times umass lost by over 10 points this year?  3... thats all... Just 3.

So to predict them to lose by 12 is a bit insulting.  To predict they will lose in a playoff environment as a visitor team, perhaps a bit more realistic, but this game has a good chance of swinging either way.  Don't count the senior effect out.  Orangemen are a young team, and we have seen throughout the NCAA tourneys every year how seniors step up when they know this loss would be their last... ever.  Can't wait to watch.

PS:  There is nothing hotter than watching umass girls scream at the TV for their college teams!  So bring all the women to Professor Thoms - the Boston bar in NY tonight!
