i honestly do not see this program heading in the right direction from where they used to be (1990s). the competition is tougher and very quick and duke seems completely overmatched when the 3s don't fall. how will they respond in the 2008-09 season?

They will improve, God.... paying off the refs is such an old and tired accusation with no credibility whatsoever.
Lets see....
Elliott Williams, a bigger and better Singler, Henderson playing like a star, a focused Senior in Paulus, I fast and athletic Olek... I think they will be pretty good, not championship worthy but good, hopefully Coach K improves the system a bit so these boys don't feel so run down by season's end. Maybe Duke can start slow and finish strong, I rather have a #3-#4 seeded Duke playing their best ball by March then what we saw this season....

We'll have to see how well this year's freshmen improve over the offseason, hopefully strength and conditioning wise they hit it hard!  I haven't seen this Elliott Williams kid play but I keep hearing is pretty good.  This Olek kid I haven't really heard anything about other than a Youtube video I saw of him just dunking over smaller white kids, which says nothing about his talent!  Singler has to become more of an inside outside threat as well as get stronger.  Paulus has to learn to value and take care of the ball more, he was better this year than years past, but still made a bunch of bone headed plays as a point guard!  Henderson needs to keep focusing on becoming a better overall player. Scheyer needs to hit the friggin weights, Nolan Smith needs more playing time to grow as a player, Taylor King needs to find his shot and become more of an all around player. Zoubek needs his scholarship taken away, I have absolutely no hope for this guy!  Marty Pocius needs to see more time because he's an athlete and can help this team, I've seen glimpses of how good he can be if given the opportunity.  And for god sake do some rebounding and free throw shooting in practice, these guys are killing me every time I watch them, they couldn't get a rebound over a 5th grader!  What happened to Dukes team free shooting?  They always used to be great as a team, they've been horrible this year!  Oh yeah, forgot about David McClure, he needs to learn not to play scared!  Here's hoping that Duke figures out that it needs to recruit a big man and do it fast!!!!!!!!!

Little improvement if anything at all.  Competition has gotten much better.  Duke has gotten worse.

Badgerfan81  you are a piece of trash.  This "over rated cheating team" beat your precious badgers 82-58 on Nov. 27.  So you my friend sound like an idiot.  What are you doing here anyway?

They will have the exact same season as they had this year. They lose Nelson and bring in a guy (Eliot Williams) who is the same type of player.  Until they bring in a solid big man, like they had the last 10 or so years (Brand, Laettner, Williams, even Randolph, etc), they will not be a true competitor.  I know Plumnee committed for the 09 class, but he only weighs 210 lbs.  If he wants to do anything, he better gain atleast 25-35 lbs

Every Duke fan just needs to sit back and accept that every elite program has down years, and this is Duke's time.  If I remember correctly, UNC had some pretty off years (compared to their normal standards anyway) in the early 2000s, and look where they are now.  Best team in the country  Duke will bounce back, we just need to give it some time

THE ANNUAL TOP TEN LIST OF THINGS THAT DUKE WILL BE DOING WHILE UNC PLAYS FOR THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

# 10. Immediate post season surgery at the world renowned Duke Clinic on Greg Paulus to remove Danny Green's right testicle from a torn cavity in Paulus's lower esophagus. This will cancel Paulus's expected appearance at the upcoming Espy's to collect his shoo-in Espy for Top Video Moment of the 2008 Year to be presented by Vince Carter and that poor unfortunate seven foot Frenchman, the 2004 winners.

#9. After Lamarcus Nelson's last three games, he will be traveling with his agent on a Discovery Tour of some of world's lesser known pro hoop franchises.  Early indications are that he will either sign with the Bangledesh Rice Krispies of the RiceDiet Only Asian League or ink a short term pact with the always competitive Limoge Laceknickers in the brutal Belgian ninth division.

#8. Coach K will begin work early Monday morning with the floundering Hillary Clinton Campaign.
Politico is reporting that he intends to make the argument that West Virginia is a small state and should not even have been in the tournament and will be looking for enough superdelegates to overturn today's result.

#7. Assistant Coaches Wojo and Chrissie Collins has been given the task to recruit some more sharpshooters for Duke's famous pre Christmas, traveling Three Point Shooting Exhibition Team that fools many people in the country into thinking that they might actually have a chance in the NCAA tournament come March. Special consideration will be given to abnormally thin players who promise to never look for an offensive rebound in the Dunleavy mold.

#6. Attendance will be mandatory for all Duke Post Players to attend Cherokee Park's Annual Big Man Clinic to be held this offseason at Cameron Indoor Arena on April 8th from 10AM to 10:10AM. Shavlik Randolph will be giving the keynote address this year on "Duke Power Footwork - How to go from the next Bill Walton to the very end of the bench in Memphis is Three Short Steps!"

#5. Speaking of dominating Big Men, I can now confirm that Josh McRoberts will be back in a Duke uniform for the 2008-2009 season. One does not lose his amateur eligibility by appearing in just four minutes of a California Developmental League summer game at the Burbank Gym and having your shot stuffed by an aging but still tough Trajan Langford who led the CDL in traveling calls for the sixth consecutive year.

#4. Rumors that Gerald Henderson is going to turn pro this summer are just not true. Gerald will not be able to put his name in the NBA draft until he completes the second half of his 365 day sentence for last year's unprovoked attack on POY Tyler Hansbrough. He will be presenting a moving conference to a multitude of Durham middle schools during the summer sessions on "Playing Nice and Playing Fair" with former Durham prosecutor, Mike Nifong.

#3. Super Frosh Kyle Singler is off to the Virgin Islands for some well deserved rest and relaxation after his sterling freshmen campaign. Singler is under program orders to get a deep tan on the trip - his non exposure to the sun due to his heavy indoor practice schedule this year caused his skin take on an almost translucent quality which made him virtually invisible for Duke's last ten games.

#2. Early indications are that Coach K is going to reconfigure the 2009-2010 season schedule to make sure that the Blue Devils do NOT host the UNC Tar Heels in the last regular season game of the year for the traditional Seniors Night. It doesn't make a lot of sense to browbeat somebody's kid with inappropriate language and ethics for four years and then invite his parents to his final home game to watch him get the absolute crap beaten out of him. Right now, it looks like Guilford will step into UNC's traditional spot as Belmont disqualified themselves by almost beating the Blue Devils the other night after scoring on a NCAA record 32 back door cuts.

and the NUMBER ONE thing that Duke will be doing while UNC competes for yet another National Championship is

#1. See if Bobby Knight needs a job!
