This is a very smart signing for us. Jon Jansen and Chris Samuels team up to be great starters at tackle, and if healthy, Jason Fabini and Randy Thomas give us a solid tandem at guard. Casey Rabach is still a pretty good center. However, this does not address our central need. A lot of people have focused on our needs at wide receiver or on the defensive line. However, we can easily, and cheaply, bolster our backups on the offensive line. It was the offensive line which broke down due to injuries last year, exposing Clinton Portis and Jason Campbell to injuries. The failure to give Campbell enough time in the pocket limited the effectiveness of Santana Moss and Antwaan Randel-El. We need to try to sign cheap players who are solid backups on the line, and think about getting some good second day draft picks as backup offensive linemen. If we can find gems like Cedric Golston and Anthony Montgomery on the second day for the defensive line, we should be able to do the same for the offensive line.
