I guess I am the only one in Clark Judge's corner. Dismissing any analysis of the Cowboys, Eagles and Giants, let's look to the Redskins. Skins finished 9-7 after suffering a ton of major injuries and other circumstances throughout the year. They did not lose anyone of any significant value. (Sorry Brandon Lloyd fans, both of you). I don't know much about how the other teams in the conference have done, because I don't follow them closely enough. I know the Giants lost a couple of guys, but I don't know how valuable they were in total (Aaron Ross and Antonio Pierce strike me as more valuable than Kawika Mitchell and Gibril Wilson). The Cowboys seem to have lost a number of coaches and players, but were most of those guys starters? Don't they still have Flozell Adams, who was one of their top priorities? I don't know much about the Eagles, other than the fact that they signed Asante Samuel, which probably means Terrell Owens, Plaxico Burress and Santana Moss might not get as many catches this year.
Back to the point. The Skins are still a solid team, and Judge is right. We need help on the D-Line and O-Line and with the speedsters. I question the need to get more wide-receivers though. They seem to take a long time to be great, and we could potentially go back to the playoffs next year. We should try to shore up an offensive line with very little depth, and the defensive end position, which is a bit old and creaky at the moment. Andre Carter and Phillip Daniels, I love you guys, but you're heading down from the pinnacle rather than up to it. So, whoever is the best DE or OL at #21 seems like our smartest option, or trading down to get multiple second and third round picks, where you can get reliable backups, which is really what we need most.
The Redskins are in need of depth on the offensive line, that is true. However, not a enough of a need to spend a first round pick on at this time. An end that can provide pressure on a consistant basis and a possesion receiver with size are far more pressing needs at this time. With picking in the last half of the first round, the quality becomes much more clouded. My opinion is that the best available player between these two positions should be taken in the first, and hopefully a developmental type of player at the other position can be found in the second and third rounds.
Sorry Skins fan, as long as Dannyboy pulls the strings you will be lucky to sneak into the playoffs every couple of years. If the "Messiah" couldn't turn it around, how is uhhh, mmm, what is your head coaches name again?
This team really came on last year, but did it mostly on emotion. Player for player they do not match up with anyone in this division. 2 Pro Bowl QB's in Philly and Dallas and a SB winning QB in NY. The Skins have...Jason Campbell. Remember J-Camb didn't take you to the playoffs, it was old man Todd Collins who is also gone, now.
I feel for you, I lived in DC, but if you go 6-10 next year don't be surprised.
I appreciate your enthusiasm in hating on the Skins, I really do......But if your gonna hate on a team, make sure you actually hate with the facts......and the biggest fact you whiffed on oh great one is that Todd Collins is not gone, he resigned with the Skins!! The only free agents from our team that did not resign with the team are Brandon Lloyd and Reche Caldwell. I don't really think we will miss either one, but you keep up the good work and spott on analysis of the FACTS!!
Besides, what have the Cowboys done with all of their talent and Pro Bowl players? Oh that's right, they 'whiffed' in the playoffs two years in a row at the hands and arm of Tony Romo! Do you realize Jake Plummer has now won more playoff games the past 10 years, than Dallas or Tony Romo?
Before we talk playoffs for next year, as a lifelong Skins fan, I for one just really relish in the fact that a) we've kept the core group of guys together and b) havn't made any flashy off-season Free Agent moves.
I like last years team, and am glad to see them back for next year. I like continuity with players, and look forward to see what Zorn can do, and what Jason Campbell can do now that he's had a season of starting under his belt. Win or lose...doesn't matter, as long as they do it with class. I'm glad we don't have headaches like TO, or Pacman Jones on our roster. It makes it easier to watch on Sundays when you have Rock Cartwrights, Clinton Portis', Cooley's and London Fletchers out there.
If you don't like rooting for headaches like T.O. and "Pacman" Jones... I sure hope you don't have fond memories of cheering for Dexter Manley or Micheal Westbrook.
Lol at Skins fans. New coach who's never even been an OC. This is going to be interesting. I'm actually rooting for you to beat the sh!tbag Giants on opening Thursday. After opening with a winning 1-0 record it's probably downhill for you from there.
Skins don't really have much talent. They simply have players that hustle occasionally. Take their last two playoff trips. They were 5-6 one year and 5-7 another and had to (HAD TO) run the table just to get into the playoffs. That's hustle. Good for them. But come on. You never see the Colts be 5-6 and needing to run the table. You never see the Pats go through it. Skins just aren't that good, but they've HUSTLED at the right time 2 of the last 3 years.
If they can beat out Philly for the 3rd spot, I guess that's good for them.
i agree with ya on the defensive end part but untill dan snyder is out of the owner spot or would keep his head out of the organization the Redskins are best a spoiler team not a true tiered playoff team. new york and dallas are on top of the division with lowly Eagles and redskins fightin for third. my expected standings in the east are dallas 12-4 ny 11-5 philly 8-8 wash 8-8. sorry skins fans snyder is your kryptonite. at least ya got the 2nd fastest player goin into the hall this year. probably the only high point to look to. btw the fastest player ever to play the game for those of you who dont now still is bob hayes. oh ya and im not sorry washington fans yall suck!
I too must lol at this-----There were two reasons why the skins didn't go farther last year, the first being major injuries, and the second was rhe coaching philosophy and decision making. Clock management, poor decision making at key times, and sitting on fragile leads frustyrated me so badly I was ready to stop watching. With a healthy team,and some young additions through the draft, coupled with west- coast offense, I say better not bet against the skins this time around.
Sorry, but I seem to recall a super bowl victory with Dexter in there, and to me,there can be no fonder memory than that! Besides, Dexter never was a lockerroom problem like T.O. now was he?
I have always been a skins fan, and as such, I always loved the great games with the Cowboys. I truly like the Cowboys, and will always remember their great players, but the only problem with the Cowboys is their fans!
